Clarifying Shampoo.

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

see that's weird i had the opposite experience. with the liquid my hair got even softer than it normally was (which was insanely lol) but the bars work great for me! if i didn't want dreads i think i would use the liquid for my regular shampoo just because i loved it, but for my hair & dreads it just wasn't the right combo. my progress with the bars has been great, & i love the clean & the scent. & the bars also last much longer than the liquid for me. i keep forgetting i still have a bar waiting for me in my cupboard :)

with dr. bronners i did have a weird buildup to it & i have hard water :( i'd like to try it again with better water (maybe get a filter & try?).

help on starter method

Introduce Yourself

no matter how hard you try & if you do everything the exact same as someone else you will never be able to get the same dreads. too many different variables. learn to accept & love yours as they are because they are unique & only yours.

to get lots of thin dreads separate often to keep them small. you may want to use beads or wraps to help. i have a lot of thin dreads naturally, but if you hair knots very fast they may get too fat too quickly, if that is the case & you can't keep up maybe you can section out & tnr to just get the sections situated.

dread wraps?

Dread Accessories

i have a wrap video on my page that shows a couple ways. i use hemp (not polished, that has wax & will leave residue on your dreadies ick) or embroidery thread.if your dreads are still young & tightening/looping & things you may want to remove wraps more often just so the string doesn't get ate up.

jellyfish joy on fb has some pretty glass beads, or scout craft stores to find ones that will fit

Do early wraps help lock your hair? and other wrap concerns...

Dread Accessories

i have a video on wrapping on my page. the closed wraps kept the hair straight & thin & may dry slower but last longer, open wraps seemed to help a bit early on because the hair could still move a bit but would get eaten by tightening dreads. if you use hemp use unpolished (the polished contains wax & will leave the goop in your dreads), or i use embroidery thread. some people use yarn but don't use anything that will shrink & felt into your hair, unless you are going for that ;) i've heard of ribbon or just fabric strips too.

Alpaca instead of wool?

General Questions

it is more fluffy & softer to me, i would think it wouldn't be as rough to rub on compared to wool so may not help as much but i'm unsure. i have a tam that is alpaca/wool blend & i haven't noticed anything one way or the other with it, but it is a bit warm lol

Oily hair/ dreads not seeming to form.

Introduce Yourself

the stuck/clumped together hair may be sections forming, mine was in sections for a good long while before the knots started up in them. & the sections would clump, split, reclump, they had a lot of sorting out to do before they seemed to actually dread at all.

it's best to have your hair loose & moving whenever possible because movement helps knots form, so a loose tam sometimes isn't bad, but i would try to let it hang free whenever possible.

how often do you wash? if your hair is still oily after going with the bs/acv washing for a while you can do less acv & see if the bs helps dry it out a bit. i needed to skip the acv for a little bit & spread out my washing.
