Backcombers to the rescue!?
Dreading Methods
Blessed Earth Mama, I'm sure your new set will be just as awesome as your last one was. I save a few photos of dreads on my computer for inspiration and I have one of your old set. Hope that's ok.

I wash my hair 2-3 times a week. Sometimes I'll wash my undreaded bangs an extra time since they tend to get greasy faster than the dreaded hair does.
Two days before I started my journey I had no idea that I would. I never had a wish for dreadlocks and I never really had an opinion about them. That evening I saw a picture of a girl with dreads but didn't think more of it. The next day I remembered the dreads and wondered how they were formed. I searched the netin lack of better things to do I guess. Something happened in me, I spent hours reading about dreads and watching Youtube-videos. They called out to me and didn't leave me with a choice, I had to start dreading. The next day I couldn't wait to get started with T&R and some backcombing and now it's been three months. I love them! They are a part of me and it feels like I've been waiting my whole life for them without even knowing.
I've beenusing dish soap for my hair since november and I'm happy with it. I've had no itching, no dandruff, no residueand no grease. It's easy torinse outand every time I use it I feel things happening withmy young dreads. I wash my hair 2-3 times a week.
Amazing progress for just 3 weeks, Jay! I'm happy for you.
I'm so sorry to hear about your Grandma. I really like your tribute to her, that isa good way to remember her and respecting her wish.
Same thing happened to me after the first washing, you can see it in my one week photo. I know it's not the best formy hair, but I use rubberbands to keep the dreads together and that has helped them. My hairtype is fine and straight so the bands are not eaten by the dreads, but I understand that if you have thicker and curly hair that could happen. I do keep an eye on the bands though, I don't want them to get stuck and I'm planning on removing them now that the dreads are a little more formed. I've also used string and that's probably a better idea and an alternative if you don't have beads.
Please don't hate on me for the bands, I do know that I really should not be using them but when my t&r babies fell apart it seemed like a good idea and it has helped them. Should add that I had not found this site yet when I put them in.
One day...
I wrote about it in my first blog post if you want to read about how my journey started.
