Dreadlocks and airport customs??

General Questions

lol. I guess I was lucky. I figured they'd be more hard core with the Olympics and all, but they just pushed us through and didn't even scan our bags

Dreadlocks and airport customs??

General Questions

I just got back from Ireland on Tuesday. On the way there, I had to land in Manchester, and go through their customs. They didn't even blink at my hair. On the way back, I had to go through Customs again in London (during the Olympics). They didn't say anything the, either. Then I had to go through them again in the US (in New York). Again, they barely gave me a second look.

People don't just randomly get pulled out of line unless they look way out of place, or a Muslim. They actually have people watching your face on camera, and can see if someones expression shows anything out of the ordinary. There's a general look on people's faces when they are stuck in line at airports. if you look different, a red flag shows up. But otherwise, you're just another commuter.

And like Eagle said, All they are allowed to do is have a dog sniff you. If the dog doesn't react, you're free to go

help

Introduce Yourself

Ripping them apart won't damage them unless you do it all the way to the scalp where you can see skin. You want to see some hair between them. As they grow out, just be sure to keep up with separating them.

2 days in

Introduce Yourself

Palm rolling will do 1 of 2 things. Either it will do nothing. You'll see that you have to do it over and over again every day. That means that none of the times did anything that lasted more than a few hours. OR it will damage your hair and roots so much that if, at all, they fix themselves, it will take years. Check out my video on what palm rolling did to my locks. I did it for the first few weeks and 6 years later the roots are so thin I am worried that they could break off at any point because of all the weight

Check out my post on fat locks. They are a pain in the ass to wash and care for. But I love them. So I am willing to take the time. If you are willing to deal with the time and effort to make sure they dry fully and don't absorb residue, go for it. Thick locks absorb more soap and water than thin locks do. So you have to be extra careful in how you wash and dry them. But check out that link:

Very nice. They remind me of John Moyer's locks before he cut them

opinions por favor :)

General Questions

They'll look great locked, but they look really cool loose. It's up to you. My wife had her bangs straigh when she had locks. But she kept them cut short so it was more manageable.

I smoke and don't notice my locks ever smelling either. My dad's really sensitive to smoke and stuck his nose in my hair one day to see if they still smelled like normal hair (Yeah, he's weird like that), and he didn't notice. He doesn't even know I smoke. But bon fires do leave a smell once in a while

show short is too short?

Dreading Methods

Well, there are plenty of people here who shaved their heads and plan to not brush or comb from the very beginning. So if you want to go natural, any length is long enough. Just stop messing with your hair.

If you want to use a starter method, 4 inches is long enough but 5-6 inches will work a little better. The longer your hair, the easier it will knot up faster. Short hair doesn't have as much body to tangle with, but it still does.

I started with hair about 5 inches long and 6 years later my locks are 16 inches long. They do lose some length as they begin to form, but once they start to mature, they grow super fast

thinking about new dreads

Dreading Methods

Dreadlocks do not have to "done". They will form on their own if you stop brushing and just wash is the right kind of soap.

But some people like to use a starter method, I started a few of mine with starter methods. But one thing that should be avoided at all costs is wax or other gels. The only gel that will be ok is the one from dreadlockshampoo.com. That one is designed to degrade itself after a day or 2 and will wash out with no scrubbing in any shower

What are your opinions towards a white male with dreads?

General Questions

I worked as a cook for 5 years. You'd think that working with food would be hard to keep long hair, let alone locks, but I've never had a problem. I wore a hair net when they were shorter and messier and then got a black tam that I could tuck them all into when they got longer.

If you live in the US and are growing your locks for spiritual reasons, you never have to do anythng about your hair unless it poses a safety risk like firemen or pilots that need to wear masks. Some jobs might ask you to cover them or tie them back, but they never have the right to ask you to cut them or not hire or fire you because of them, when spirituality is involved.

I know some conservative areas might try to do it anyway, but if you feel strongly about your locks and the work you want to do, you can bring the law into it and you will always be in the right
