What are your opinions towards a white male with dreads?

General Questions

The only negative comments I have ever gotten were from family. I've had my locks for 6 years, and my mom still thinks I should cut them and go to a salon to have them "done" nicely. My dad is a racist bigot who thinks I am trying to look black, but he has stopped saying it to my face in the recent years. Until I went to Ireland, no one else has given me dirty looks (That I've noticed), or said anything but the random questions about how I wash them or how long they took to grow. In Ireland I was 1 of only 2 people I saw with locks in 16 days. and I traveled around the entire country. And funny enough, only in Dublin did I get looks. One woman (I didn't see it, but my wife noticed) looked me up and down and had thatdisapprovinglook on her face. Another woman, I did see, kept scowling and me in Newgrange. And a drunk guy in a pub bought me a drink but kept telling me I should cut my hair.

I feel like you will get more compliments that negative feedback. Some people wont understand the messy stages. But that is because they haven't spoken to someone starting the journey. They see people with locks and they see people with really messy nappy hair and don't ut 2 and 2 together that that the messy haired person might have been starting them.

All that said, there's nothing wrong with white guys and locks. I have them, and I don't do drugs. I don't call myself Rasta. So I just laugh it off when I get comments like that. It's an unfortunate side effect of societies ignorance, but you can't fault them for it. Just rock your locks and try to inform people as you go

I didn't go to the same school. So I can't say I saw it. But It seems weird to me too. I couldn't imagine washing my hair in a ponytail

My wife actually knew someone in high school who had her hair in a ponytail for so long without ever taking it out that it locked up right there, She actually had to take scissors and cut her hair into individual locks. I have no idea how long she kept her locks. But that was a weirdscenario.

Either where a plain black tam (that is professional and will cover all of your hair while giving it enough room to move), or just where a hair net. If girls with long hair can get away with just a hair net, you can too. And most of them are loose enough that all of your hair will fit into it. I worked in kitchen for 5 years and could still wear a hair net when my locks were a bit past my shoulders. Only when we ran out of them did I start to wear a tam

FUZZ

Dread Maintenance

well first... what fabric? wool? wool always tends to leave so fuzzies. I have a wool blend hoodie that leaves little blue fuzzies one in a while. at 2 months, your hair will eventually eat them up and they will disappear. But you could use henna or a strong brewed black tea to dye them if your hair is dark. sorry I didn't check your page yet to see if you had any other pictures

Really really thin hair and dreads?

Dreading Methods

That weave you see is what makes me think they were interlocked.

they look relatively natural. But the texture of some of the ones wrapping the others into the ponytail along with the root of the one on his temple makes me think they were interlocked multiple times throughout the years it took to grow them. It looks like he interlocked a couple every few inches of growth. Who knows why, because the knotting in between looks great.

But you do sound like you've got fine hair for going completely natural. I have thinner hair too, and mine turned out great. Don't worry about it. Locks thicken up and create thickness and texture all their own

Just saw this commercial 2 minutes ago

Dread Maintenance

So I know that Dawn Dish soap is amazing for getting rid of wax and other residue. But about 2 minutes ago I say a commercial for Dawn Ultra. It showed a little baby duck covered in oil from some oil spill, and they used Dawn Ultra to wash it al off of him. It was so cute. I'm not sure how well it really works i practice, but it's nice to see that they are aware of how productive it is in cleaning residue

Just a quick hello!

Introduce Yourself

You are always welcome here. I am glad that you decided that TnR wasn't right for you and only did a few. I did a few TnR and a few back combed before I realized that.
