local rainbow gatherings

Alternative Lifestyles and Subcultures

I'm hoping to make it to a regional this year. I've also only been to one but I'm going to be super pregnant this year on July 4th and even though I LOVE the idea of my baby possibly coming into the world during a gathering my husband is a little worried about complications and stuff. If something were to go wrong then I would need to be like life alerted out of there since it's so far out into the woods.

winter pants

Alternative Lifestyles and Subcultures

Has anyone ever made/bought cold weather wrap pants? I have a few pairs of light cotton thai fisherman style that I LOVE but now that winter is here I can't wear them easily.

I'm thinking of trying to make a fleece or heavy cotton pants but I'm not sure if they will fold properly? I would love to make some badass corduroy patchwork pants too but my sewing machine died and I'm pretty sure that would take me all winter. Plus those are harder to make unisex, so that both my husband and I can share.

Any suggestions? I'm looking for something that will carry me through to month 6th of pregnancy, and also I can share with my husband. Yes, I am making some hard demands.

Adding dreads gradually?

Dreading Methods

My husband did this. His hair is about 1/3 dreaded right now and the rest of his hair is normal. Unless you are going to eventually dread your entire head it's kind of a pain. His dreads are constantly eating the normal hair and he has to put more in because that's the only thing that he can do at some points.

If you dont' mind that I think its a really cute style.

Is this an okay way to separate dreads in the beginning?

Dread Maintenance

Just start tnr from the beginning. I hate to break it to you but those sections are NOT going to stay the same. I had neat little blocks when I first tnred my hair and now, over a year later, I have many shapes and sizes. Dreads have a mind of their own, and will do what they want. Your job is that of a parent: to gently guide them so they don't killeach other.

Beyond that, have fun and don't worry too much!

How many dreads should I have?

Introduce Yourself

I don't know how many I have. I started off at around 40 or so I think but I know a lot have congoed since then... I'm probably somewhere between 34-38 now. It was the most that I could get out of my hair without them being super tiny because my hair is/wasridiculouslythin.

I have a friend who has 80 dreads and each one of them are bigger than mine. Her hair is HUGE.

So, with that in mind, I would say put in as many as you feel you want. It's always easier to put in more though, because its easier to combine than rip apart

. I think the varying sizes is the keythough I have one in the back that is massive like 3 inches, and then i have ones that are the size of micros. It didn't start out that way, it was just what they wanted to become.

Dreadie Mamas

Alternative Lifestyles and Subcultures

Hey ladies!

I've noticed before that there are a good amount of knotty mamas on here and I want some words of wisdom from you guys.

I'm only a few months preggo with my first but I'm already starting to feel the burn of wanting to raise children against the grain.

Maybe I'm just emotional from hormones but I'm seriously ready to just force my husband to move us into a commune somewhere that way I'm not paranoid about all this babylon bullshit that I don't want to subject my little ones to.

Is pulling back dreads o.k.?

Dread Maintenance

I had to put my hair up a lot for work and it didn't seem to do too much damage. The only downside is that I needed toseparateA LOT more than I probably would have otherwise.

My dreads are a little over a year now and have recently started growing so I'm assuming that means they matured in a normal timeline anyways.

Thinking about dreads?

dready interests

What do you use to dye your hair?

I would just be careful of dyes that have a conditioning property to them, since that can make the dreading process more of a headache than it needs to be.

Also, with having dreads it opens up a whole new world of fun things you can do with your hair: wraps, beads, charms, wool dreads etc.

blunt tips

Introduce Yourself

Most of mine blunted on their own. I pulled at a few a little to get a tiny bit of hairs hanging below to make drying take less time. Othewrise it works itself out.

Care for Tarnished beads

Dread Accessories

Hey all. I was wondering if any of you have delt with tarnished beads in dreadies at all. I just got out of the shower and for some reason all of my metal beads are that super gross brown color. I've had most of them in for a few months, and one for 6 months so It's not like its my first time doing an BS ACV wash with them. The only thing that I can think of is that it's my first time doing a deep clean at this new house, which probably has different water than my old apartment.

Also, a lot are stuck in so I can't take them out =/

They are all craft beads from Pat Catans or Joanne Fabrics.
