Help! Save My Dreads

My dreadies turned a year old 4 days ago. I always smooth them down or do a slick back motion so i never realize the loose hair. For the first time tonight, i kinda just messed the top around and did a slick forward motion which exposed all the loose hair i really have. Not too sure how to feel about it. What should i do with all this loose hair !??!?! Just leave it, or give in to maintenance and have somebody crotchet me up. I have never done a single thing for maintenance since i got them, so i would hate to break that streak. I like the natural thing, but this much loose hair is slightly mortifying to me. And that's coming from a dude that likes the unkept natural look. Please, toss me some advice!!!

Thanks guys!

New Dread Question

General Questions

i would just leave them be and dont try to tighten them. dreads are great when you just let them sit. they will look like garbage for a while. they take time to naturally form. they should be messy and poofy and crazy in the begining. sleeping on them and just every day wear of them will make the hairs come together in time. just have patience:)

Honestly your dreadslook so nicely maintained you could get away with it down and natural in my opinion :)

how long without washing

General Questions

i went about 6 months. i feel like washing them would of helped them mature quicker. but let me tell you, when i finnaly did get to washing, the smell of them wet made me gag haha. but they are 11 months now and pretty matured so im gonna start washing once a week. too much dandruff and dead skin cells for me to be okay with at this point
