about crochet dreads
Dreading Methods
I'm pretty sure this is possibly the worst idea I've heard in weeks....
here's why.
1, while the rest of the hair "may" be locked in place, the lock will only get stronger if you leave it alone to mature further on it's own. More of the crocheted lock will probably come loose over time and then those loose hairs will tangle together and reinforce your locks. If you singe or cut away the strands as they come loose you'll just be taking more and more hair away from your locks, possibly ending up with a tiny rat-tail on growing and maturing new locks, or just ruining them so they fall off.
2, NEVER use fire to "trim" hair!
Hair is flammable and is damaged to "proximity" to "heat".
Even if you feel like using a cig allows you precision, you're still using fire, and intense heat, and exposing your hair to it, damaging and weakening any hair within two inches of the cig.
3. Crocheted dreads Will frizz before they tighten back up. They do so because the knots you form with the crochet hook are not "natural" to the hair and the hair will seek to untangle itself from them, at least to some degree.
However, if you just wait it out, the frizzyness will subside with time. Don't "fix" your locks, they don't need it, they just need "time" and "patience".
