About dreads and crochet hooks

Dreading Methods

Oh...I see..makes sense. I will throw out my hook and use it no more! I will listen to the one who has been dreading much longer than myself. >< (That's what I get for watching youtube to figure out how to dread)

About dreads and crochet hooks

Dreading Methods

I'm glad I am not the only one that didn't have crocheting backfire. I don't over-do it but on occasion I will tame some fly aways with a small hook. I don't do it to the point where my hair is breaking, just enough to make them look a little neater. I also dislike the beginning stages where the ends are very loose and frayed looking so I pull those up into my dreads. It seems to help them lock up better. Happy dreading!!

Thank you everyone for replying! The picture I have up right now is old and not the dreads I have now. I will post a new one soon!

Introduce Yourself

Hey everyone! I'm Leah. I have been an admirer of dreadlocks for a long time. I did my own last December and I had them til about hmm...March of this year. They just were not working for me, which I think is because I washed them too frequently and didn't really know what I was doing. So I have decided to try again. I did a backcombing/twist n rip combo this time, (which I wish I would have found this place before I did) some are alright and others are very lose, so I kinda fixed them. I am now just going to leave them alone and hope for the best. I do have some questions though. I washed my hair the day I dreaded (shampoo no conditioner) so how soon should I wash? If I get a dry shampoo will that effect anything? Any tips would be helpful, I am a bit OCD about washing lol...

Judgemental people.

Introduce Yourself

I was having the same problem (sort of) with people telling me "no" "eww dreads are nasty"..but since I have always done "my own thing" and am out of the "norm" I did them anyway. Who cares what people say, if you are happy with you and you like how you look then that's all that matters. Rock out with your dreads!!

Dread Accessories

Most who get kanekalon dreads dread them before and seal them with hot water or steam and then put on at the roots..not the ends. It is not real hair so I don't understand how they would dread on their own. If they were human hair then yeah they probably will. Being synthetic though I dont see how that would work. Also, most fakies are not meant to be long term, they are worn for 3-4 weeks and taken out and re attached. I am getting synthetic ones, but not for long term. Basically, for Halloween maybe a bit after then I will be removing them and waiting until my own dreads are more....well...dreads and possibly using them again. I want butt length hair, mine will take forever to get there (its chin length now). I would not recommend using them long term or you could quite possibly ruin your own. They are not going to feel like real hair...ever...they are synthetic...that's how it goes. Wool could possibly feel better since it is a natural thing, but I don't know...never used it.

You could look for a way to make dread falls as well...they will give the appearance of fully dreaded hair but can be taken out easily since they are attached to a clip, band...whatever..idk...just my 2 cents! =)
