Should I be concerned?

Introduce Yourself

Your hair may have gone thru a growth spurt, causing the loose roots. Over time they'll tighten up. It's totally normal to have anywhere from 1/4 inch to 3 or so inches of loose root. The more your hair moves, the more the roots will tangle up. If you pull your hair back, wear a bandana, restrict movement in any way, it'll slow them down.

Fresh rosemarry and basil leaves?

Dread Maintenance

I don't see why it wouldn't be effective. The oils are just more concentrated so you need just a few drops. Google how to make a tincture or how to make essential oils. They have to sit for several weeks, but you can make your own for a lot cheaper than buying them.

Semi-mature dreads feeling softer

Dread Maintenance

One thin that has kept me away from the LUSH bars...I went into one of the shops, they carried both the squeaky green and seanik, but listed in the ingredients was SLS. I wanted to stay away from that shit so I didn't buy any. Anyway, I've been using the dreadlockshampoo bars as body soap as well as shampoo until I can figure out the right oil combos for my skin and make my own soap.

Hey Justin. You may be drying your scalp out with the liquid shampoo, it has sea salt in it, which can dry skin out. How long did you use the bar? Is your scalp itchy too? The only thing I can think of for you to try is adding an acv rinse, maybe once a week. If you can get some, rosemary and clary sage oils work great at controlling flakes.

Flat dreads

General Questions

Hi Lenore. Any brand of acv is fine. About the flat dreads, do you sleep on your sides? In any case, it's perfectly normal to have some flat dreads. It may take a while, but they will round off. Just think of things this way, if something your hair does over the next year or so makes you panic, question your decision to dreads, or doubt yourself, it's perfectly normal. Flat, crazy shapes, kinks, loops, zig zags, loosening, falling out...that's exactly what your new dreads should be doing. :)

How to cope with all the negativity?

Dreadlocks Journey Emotional Support

I say pretty much what Randi says 'I love my hair, that's what matters'. On Thanksgiving day 2011, when my dreads were only two months old, my mom said 'I'm sorry Sis, bu I hate your dreads' right when I walked in the door. I just said 'that's ok Mom, I love them'. She hasn't said a thing since. She's even gone on adventures to help me find essential oils and various other bits to make my hair smell or look nice.

soap for dreads

Dread Maintenance

If you mix your bs solution too weak, it won't exfoliate your scalp and get rid of dead skin and dirt. The ratio BarrelLady gave is correct and amazing! I the search tab up top, search for 'baking soda and sea salt ratios' It should bring up a post by Baker Street, I think. That is the, hands down, most comprehensive detailed description of the recipes you need. Start with that mixture (1/2C to 5C) for a few weeks then start to tweak it as needed. It may be too drying for African type hair, tho. Always always always do a quick acv rinse after you use BS. Basically, I'm reiterating everything BL said. You can ask SE if you feel the need, but he'll say the same thing lol

Piercings and tattoos

General Talk

I have 4 holes in my left ear, bottom hole is 00g, second hole is 6g I think. Right ear has 2 holes, same sizes as the left. I have my right nostril and my tongue pierced as well. I only have 4 tats, but that can change at any moment. I plan o. Having my whole back done and sleeves.
