My dreads!

Introduce Yourself

Hunter.Crow:

Finally got some decent pics of my hair and wanted to share with you guys. Six month old locs still forming and doing their thing. I have to post in a few different comments to get all the pics uploaded because my tablet is a dumb

Maybe there is a better way to do this but I do not know what it is because I'm also a dumb

Dreadlocks in the BDSM Community

Alternative Lifestyles and Subcultures

Can I bring this thread back to life? I actually have an important question related to this, and this seems like the best place to ask it.

I'm trying to find out if anyone out there has experience with dreadlocks and sado-masochistic hair pulling. It's something I've always been into but now I have dreads and I'm afraid of damaging them. If anyone knows or knows someone who knows, that would be super useful.

Washing, deep cleaning, general maintenance questions!

Dread Maintenance

Wow, these shampoos are affordable, and without any of the chemicals I have desperately been trying to avoid. As soon as I can, I'm gonna order that tea tree liquid and give it a try.

How about sea salt treatments? Do you think I should stop doing those? I do them at most once a week but it's pretty irregular. Any experience with that?

Washing, deep cleaning, general maintenance questions!

Dread Maintenance

Hello! I'm new to the forum and will be scouring it for info, but I do have some pressing questions which may have been answered already so I'm gonna ask anyway.

So I have been using Free and Clear residue free shampoo since I started my locs about six months ago. I have a bottle of Trader Joes Tea Tree Tingle shampoo that I was planning on switching to. Both shampoos have been extensively recommended by sites that I found trustworthy at the time, but I'm always willing to revise my thinking based on compelling evidence.

Also, I have recently been told that deep cleanses with baking soda and/or apple coder vinegar can be damaging. I'm not entirely surprised. Are there other ways to do deep cleanses without the damage? Thank you for reading!

Yes I've done two baking soda deep cleans and my last one was with apple cider vinegar added to it. I have been using Free and Clear residue free shampoo for the last six months. Any word on the safety/effectiveness of that you know of? I was getting ready to switch to Trader Joes Tea Tree Tingle shampoo, as I've found several sources saying it's a good shampoo to use with dreads that are six months old or older.

My Intro

Introduce Yourself

Hello, I'm Hunter, and I've had dreads for six months now. It has definitely been one of the best decisions I've ever made, I feel as though I found the perfect way to express myself with my hair. I started with twist and rip, was fairly gentle with that process, and didn't section my hair with any precision so the sections are mostly different sizes. I actually love that each individual dread is unique to itself. My unlocked hair was straight, fine, and thin. My dreads are therefore fairly thin, but I like the look. I refuse to use wax, gel, or powders, and I take great care to research the shampoo I use. I also use residue free body wash to further prevent buildup.

I have many questions, and I think this is the perfect place to ask them. Whenever I'm able to take a good pic I'll post my dreads in the appropriate forum section. Thanks everyone, I look forward to our discussions!
