A question

General Questions

I just started mine as twist and rip but i'm just letting it do it's own thing apart from separating. I'm not even going all the way with separating. I have a couple that obviously wanted to join together so i'm letting them. I've got a nice congo at the nape of my neck. It's now one of my favorites. In my opinion a lot of people when referring to natural they mean without wax or crap in them.

To Separate Or Not To Separate, That Is The Question.....

Dread Maintenance

personally i think you should leave it be. it adds personality to your dreads. love it and nurture it and hug it and squeeze it and call it george. lol, but really you could name it. i think it looks pretty cool and that's one of the fun things about dreads. they do strange things and act like they have a mind of their own. let them do what they will and you will be happier in the long run and so will your beautiful dreads

Just a quirky intro

Introduce Yourself

Hi everybody,

I'm new to this site, as of like 10 minutes ago. I've been wanting dreads since the first time i saw thm, so when i was like 4 ha ha. I hve since had dreads a few different times, and have taken them out because i just didn't get them in right. I have backcombed, neglect, wax, even pomade instead of wax, i know stupid move. I have really thick wavy somewhat oily hair and it just takes forever for me to do by myself so i usually get some done exactly how i want them, but once i've been working on them for 5 hours or so i just want to be done so i speed thru the process and it looks like crap and falls apart within a day. I'm honestly looking for some help getting them started. I miss having dreads and honestly I look better with them than without them hahahahaha. I think dreads are the most beautiful natural hairstyle a person could possibly have. if hair was meant to look smooth and silk like it does when it's brushed it would always look like that without brushing it. So yeah, i ramble.....

Knotted Dreadlock Wraps - How Do You Make Them?

Dread Accessories

a simple walk thru for the macrame knots....

take a few strands of whatever colors you want... make them approximately 3-4 inches longer than you want your wrap. Tie the end around your dread you want it in. Take all the colors but one and hold them in your left hand if you are right handed (opposite for lefties). Take the remaining color in your right hand and kinda fold it over the dread and other pieces in kindof a 4 shape... that's the shape you will see. Then take the end of that piece and pul it under and thru the center of the 4. continue on this same way until you are ready to switch colors. Pick your next color and put it in your right hand... first color back to the left hand with the rest. and just keep going in this way. Make sure not to turn anything over and hold it tight as you are doinig it. The knots will spiral around the dread and be very beautiful. Once you get to the end of your thread or hemp just trim the ends of the thread. There are so many knots it won't come loose. Hope this helps

honestly sometimes second hand stores and yard sales have excellent beads. Just look for the big gaudy necklaces that you would probably never wear... that's where i got several of my beads. I just took the necklaces apart.
