Loc Disaster! Gross sticky stuff inside my dreads

Help! Save My Dreads

I haven't had issues like this but did have a sticky build up in my dreads for a little while. They never had any sort of odor but were sticky like they were soaked in soda. I used Dawn dish soap and that worked really well to strip it out and I have found Pantene Clarifying Shampoo too that I'll use on occasion (like 1 time every couple of months). The dish soap left my hair super frizzy and stripped feeling and the shampoo leaves my hair feeling clean but not in a harsh way. I'm not sure if yours is mold, mine wasn't. I had a build up from a dread shampoo and hard water. I thought I should throw that in there just in case you need something else. Good Luck! I hope you are able to get it out....keep us updated.

Beavertails

General Questions

Hello everyone! I was just wondering about beavertails. I am 9 months into my journey and my hair is dreading very nicely but I have a head full of them. I was wondering if my beavertails were going to tighten up and become smaller or if they will tend to stay wide? I don't mind them, but I can't get beads over them. My hair is very wavy...just in case that might have anything to do with it. Thanks in advance for all your answers!

The attached file is the same picture....sorry. I can't figure out how to remove it

The Dyeing of the Dreads! What Color Are Yours?

Dreadlock Styles and Dread Styling

I love the Vampire Red. It's absolutely beautiful on you!

I've dyed my dreads a lot... and its a pain to keep up.
I never go to a salon, always done it myself or had a friend help.

Basically the same rules apply as dying regular hair.. except you can't use conditioner afterwards so regular hair dye tends to be more damaging to dreadlocks.

If you plan to just keep up on your roots it will be a much less tedious process.

If you want vibrant color in your hair you'll have to bleach first... then veggie dye works well for the color, and its actually good for your hair. but it does fade quickly.
You can also use the veggie dye over dark hair for subtle highlights... but again it fades so quickly, to me its hardly worth the mess. (and believe me there is a mess, the color stains everything lol)

Also, Baking Soda/ACV strips a lot of the color out of hair, so you may want to use mostly dr. bronners or dreadlock shampoo bars after you dye.

I've attached a few pics, the first pic my hair was dark blondish, and I bleached a few random dreads. Then I used Manic Panic veggie dye (2 canisters) in Vampire Red and the results are pic 2.
In pic 3 I dyed my hair brown, with a red intensifier... and then after it faded I used manic panics semi-permanent dye in a purple color with more of the red intensifier mixed in. The purple tint faded to brown really quickly though.

If you have any questions I'm happy to help :)

6 month old dreads...

General Questions

I tried the baking soda wash with the ACV rinse too. I have very hard water and had the same problem. Baba let me know that with hard water you need to either boil your water first or buy distilled bottle water. I thought it seemed like to much work for all my hair so I just use the Dread Bars and the LockinUp Shampoo. I shampoo every other day...sometimes I wait an extra day but it seems like the more I shampoo the faster things go. I like them much better anyway...they smell great! I think too that they help with the progression of my locks.(I'm in my 8th month) I have a lot of undreaded hair as well and the ends take a real long time to dread if they do at all. Good Luck! I hope I helped some
