How I can grow my hair faster and healthy.

General Questions

Massage your scalp often and brush your scalp as well as your hair. That will stimulate hair growth as well

Saying hello

Introduce Yourself

Hello Olivia and welcome to the family! You are not alone with the rubber band experience. Before I found this wonderful site, in the beginning of my journey, I too added bands and to just the tips. My twist n rip had fallen right out and I thought it was the only way to get em started. My bands were in about 2 weeks and were so embedded and actually started melting in that I had to have my girls cut them out. Thank God for S.E. or most of us would've been screwed at some point. I can't wait to see some pictures of your locks. Happy Dreading!!!

Help, please?

Help! Save My Dreads

Even if you were able to TnR the tips, they'd fall out. The tips may never dread and if they do some take years. It's all up to your hair. I'm 10 1/2 months in and my tips aren't dreaded. Some have looped and folded over but most are still straight. (well wavy, my hair has natural curl) It's a bonus to have straight undreaded tips too, that way the water drips from them instead of being trapped in a blunted tip. It helps the drying process. Good luck and Happy Dreading!!

One year old TnR/ combed dreads.

General Talk

Your dreads are beautiful! I really like your hair color too, you don't see too many natural blondes around anymore.

I need some tips for sleeping

Dread Maintenance

I too was always in the habit of pulling my hair back for bed, I hated it down to sleep. I tried pulling it back for the first couple of months of dreading. I read on here that it helps the dreading process to keep it down while sleeping so I started leaving it down. I even tried lying on my hair so when I toss and turn it knots more. I am so glad I read that because it worked. My hair started dreading much faster. It does get easier as time goes by but just think, once they're dreaded you can tie them up to sleep again. lol. Good Luck!

Losing hair

General Talk

Before I started dreading I was losing sooo much hair. I was actually nervous to dread thinking that I wouldn't have enough hair for them to look descent. My hair mostly came out in the shower. Since I have started dreading my hair has become so thick it's crazy. I used to be able to wrap a rubberband around my hair 3 times and now I can barely get it around 1 time, and I'm only in my 10th month. Once they start to tighten your loose hairs will become trapped in the dreads and you will stop losing much hair at all. I think, if possible, you should get out of the habit of pulling it back though. The more you leave your hair down the faster it will progress. Good luck to you and Happy Dreading!!!

drying very long dreads

General Talk

That's a cool idea. Just out of curiosity...how long does it take for your hair to dry? Mine take about 5 hours.

My parents showed me this...

General Talk

I really loved this! I thought right from the beginning though.....how rude, the man on the phone kept saying he was homeless to whomever he was speaking to. I don't know if he was and I missed something but he definitely didn't look homeless to me. He had a bag and that was it, his clothes, shoes and jacket looked pretty damn good for homeless? Kind of a shitty assumption to start a "prayer" video in my opinion. I live in Las Vegas and the homeless out here (most) appear very poverty stricken. I did love how they played together, very talented!

Inform people with proper information about dreadlocks

Dread Products

Hello DRS! I just wanted to let you know that I singed your petition but I do have a suggestion. The way you describe how to wash your hair with baking soda isn't accurate. The baking soda needs to be dissolved in water (I believe the ratio is 1-10. 1 part baking soda to 10 parts water), then poured over your already wet hair and let to soak for about 10 minutes. The ACV rinse was like 2 capfulls of ACV to a gallon of water. (If I'm wrong on the ratios somebody please correct me) Also, maybe a mention of baking soda doesn't dissolve properly if you have hard water. Shampoo does clean your hair, but leaves a residue in dreadlocks, unless it's residue free and meant for dreads. I'm not trying to nit pick but I believe if you are going to name a company for their wrong doings what you state should be completely true or accurate, especially since your linking it to this site. I hope this doesn't offend you, I completely support your cause! S.E. has given me great advice as well and who knows what I may have done to my dreads had I not found this site.
