About dreads and crochet hooks

Dreading Methods

Completely agree with hans, no one forced anything upon her, she came looking for advice and people gave their personal experiences. Whether crocheting is good or bad is ones own opinion, irrespective of this, replies that start off by saying "OMG, DIDNT YOU HEAR WHAT I SAID.... etc etc" is definately a show of arrogance. I have mentioned my opinion earlier in this thread and got bombarded by some people saying I musnt force or judge other people ..etcSo before anyone mentions the point that people didn't read the entire post.. Please keep in mind that yes we are literate and capable of reading.. And the fact of the matter is people gave their personal accounts intending to provide her with valuable advice and help her answer her question. It is her choice to decide what she agrees with or not. But again frases such as "OMG,... " "That soaring eagle guy..." And using unecessary foul language definately sets the wrong tone.Any way.. No need to ponder on this argument,... I'm going to go make some food

I don't understand why she asked a question and when people give honest repsponses...then they get shat on. Seriously women...if you going to have a attitude towards people that have been dreading for many years.. Then take your attitude elsewhere. If you so 'for' crocheting and think you know it all.. Then don't ask the question in the first place

Starting dreadlocks from fresh but a little nervous

Dreading Methods

I wouldn't use shampoo....I haven't washed my hair with shampoo for 2 and a bit months(since I started dreading) and my hair feels healthier than its ever been and its clean.. My hair always used to get dry and frizz up from normal shampoos because my hair is thick and quite curly.. So I'd say jus go with BS/ACV.... After a week or two.. Ull probably look back and say it was the best decision uve ever made

back combing help

Help! Save My Dreads

I started mine 2 months ago using backcombing... And mine haven't fallen apart, they actually seem to be coming along alright. I'm not using any products on my hair, just pure some salt water over my head in the shower twice a week and wash with bicard + vinegar once or twice a week. The only thing I do in terms of maintenance is pull apart at the roots, (because I sectioned my hair myself), and because they are not that long, and now I've put a few beads on the ones that were a bit thin, so I'm deliberate making them congo. How does backcombing damage the hair and/or scalp? And how do you know if your hair is damaged?

shrinkage and growth

Dread Maintenance

I supose someone with long hair will obviously lose more because of the ratio of hair that needs to shrink, my ones in the front are only down to my nose, so if I had to lose 2 or more inches I won't have much hair left, the ones on the side are long enough to cover my ears completely, does the new growth not cancel out some of the shrinkage?

shrinkage and growth

Dread Maintenance

So I've had my dreads coming up on 2 months and everything is coming along just fine.I'd like to know if my dreads will become any shorter as the mature? I backcombed to start off and lost about a inch to inch and a half off length. But I've noticed that my dreads haven't really got any longer over the past 2 months. So what can I expect in terms of growth and any shrinkage, if anyPeace

size wise

Dreading Methods

What's the opinion on the size of dreads? A lot of first timers make their locks thick, as this is my first time I was in deep debate with myself whether I should make mine thick or thin. My hair has a curl to it, but its mainly just really really thick. So anyway, I made mine different sizes.. But I'm just worried that they not quite thick enough ... The thickest being about an average 'pinky' finger size.. And the getting smaller. I quite like the idea of having lots of dreads rather than just a handfull.. How can I expect my dreads to react over time? Any change in size? I'm just not sure I want them to get much smaller, because they going to look to small then

more hair on one side

Dreading Methods

What can I do to tame the frizz beast? I wanted to get pure aloe gek but I can't find it anywhere!! The closest thing I could find to a lock product was beeswax... And I realy don't think I should start putting that stuff in my hair. At the moment I'm putting nothing in.. Using no shampoos aswel. There's quite a bit of frizz.. Near the roots and around the dreads. What must I do? Just wait it out?
