Life Issues Facing Dreads

My husband doesn't like mine either. He keeps asking me to brush my hair and I told him this is an important spiritual undertaking for me, and a lifelong commitment I've made. He doesn't understand, tho cuz he's an atheist and completely nonspiritual. He lives by science. So I just have to tell him to respect my decisions I make for my own body. He's not mean about it tho. He even helped me to put on some beads. He just wishes I would brush my hair. I just have to make peace with him not liking my hair.

I've heard a lot of this since everyone found out I was dreading. I work with mostly black women, and they all tell me that my hair won't dread like that, I have to get extensions. They say that hair doesn't just dread, you have to go get it twisted. One nurse at work has dreads and she said "Trust me, this takes hours to do and it's not all my hair. You can't just not brush it. Especially white people. If you wanna wear our hair style, listen to somebody who knows about it." All the time like I don't know what I'm doing and I'm appropriating another culture. Issues of race around dreadlocks are frustrating no matter what color you are. They say all these things to me and I'm not even white! Ugh, I really feel ya lol

I'm with Baba. I just don't pay attention to it. A girl at work said " Wow you've really let your hair get crazy." Me "Yeah, I love it!" Although people don't seem to have a problem with generally. My teacher commented on it, but only the color. It kinda took me by surprise. Teacher:"Did you do that with your hair on purpose?" Me:"....." Teacher:"It's kinda pink. Did you dye it that color?" Me:" Uh, no. It was red, but I guess it faded lol." I try to just be nonchalant about my hair. If you respond with negativity, all you'll get is negativity.

You should see the deer in the headlights look I get when I tell people I eat paleo. It only intensifies when I tell them what that means. I get so sick of hearing "If you don't eat grains, how do you get fiber??? Don't you know that the government recommends Xservings a day of whole grain products???" Like I'll never shit again cuz I don't eat bread. I've also heard "If you wanna eat weird, why can't you just be a vegetarian?" That made no sense to me at all. Like I'm just paleo cuz I wanna be weird. Nevermind trying to be healthy :/
