Dreads look grey after washing my hair with baking soda??

Dread Maintenance

lol man, I time and time again keep having problems with my dreads, I thought this was going to be easy lol! Well anyways, I went ahead and washed my hair tonight. I used a 1/3 baking soda, 10 drops of tea tree oil, 10 drops of island oil and a gallon of water. I mixed that bad boy up until the there were no more baking soda to be seen and I took a shower, ran the mixture throughout my whole hair/head and cleaned my scalp while letting the water run. I started ringing out my dreads (like you ring out a towel) and noticed how much brown stuff (which I can only assume was dirt) came off my dreads. Anyways so far so good and everything and once I get out of the shower I look in the mirror and my dreads look kinda grey. I go back into the shower (cold water mind you) and try to get this stuff out but nothing! Is this suppose to happen? How do I get it out?

leave the cap off let em loosewhen u sleep

african hair does require extra moisture too much oils tho and it gets too slippery to hold a knot

u can feel when its try it just feels less soft ,

letting it congo just means stoo seperating and let them combine

u can force it by putting a bead over 2 dreads or wrapping 2 dreds together with hemp or embroidery thread

but as li[ong as u dont seperate the thinner ones they will join together

What does letting them congo mean and how do you do that? The area at the roots aren't big for the skinny dreads.

Also just a few questions, I have been sleeping using a skull cap which is isn't too tight but it barely leaves room for my dreads, should I stop wearing it and not sleep with anything on my hair? Also is alright I am using oils and water when my hair is dry? How do I know when my hair is dry? And is a soft scalp bad?

Hey soaring eagle! She did palm rolling when she retwisted my dreads I believe. I have been dreading my hair since the middle of 2008. How long do you think it will take for my scalp to be covered fully in hair? And will my skinny dreads eventually thicken? I have a lot of skinny ones at the top of my hair that I would like a bit thicker to match the ones at the back of my head. The dreads on my sides and back seem really good but some of them on the top are a bit on the skinny side (Always been like that since I started them).

Help! Save My Dreads

Hey everyone, so I joined here some weeks ago where I was thinking my hair was balding because of my hair dresser so I stopped going. I haven't been there since November of last year so the only thing I have been doing is washing my dreads. How long will it take for my dreads to recover? I want my whole scalp to be full of dreads but I still have a split at the top of my head. And plus my dreads feel like they are coming apart at the scalp on the top part of my dreads. Then some of my skinny long ones at the top front part of my dreads are thinning at the ends. This is beginning to become more trouble then it is worth, what the hell am I doing wrong!?

Skinny dreads thinning??? Help please!

Help! Save My Dreads

Should I just cut off the thin spots that are near the ends of my dreads, doesn't look like hair can just somehow make it at those ends to make it thicker.

yea they look ok a couple minor thin spots but not really worth worrying about

Skinny dreads thinning??? Help please!

Help! Save My Dreads

Hello! I made a discussion a few days ago about my dreads looking like they are balding which was here:

http://www.dreadlockssite.com/forum/topics/am-i-balding-need-help-please?xg_source=activity&id=3754945%3ATopic%3A1575470&page=2#comments

Ended up getting a lot of help from SoaringEagle and now I have some more questions to get my dreads healthier. A lot of my dreads on the top of my scalp and front of it are skinny compared to the back and when they haven't been retwisted in a while they look like they could fall off. How am I suppose to go the natural way of dreading my hair when they look like the pictures I will post? Plus some of my dreads in the front of my face that fall look like they are thinning at the ends. Can you guys look at my pics and see how I can fix this!? Please :)
