Hey everyone, so I joined here some weeks ago where I was thinking my hair was balding because of my hair dresser so I stopped going. I haven't been there since November of last year so the only thing I have been doing is washing my dreads. How long will it take for my dreads to recover? I want my whole scalp to be full of dreads but I still have a split at the top of my head. And plus my dreads feel like they are coming apart at the scalp on the top part of my dreads. Then some of my skinny long ones at the top front part of my dreads are thinning at the ends. This is beginning to become more trouble then it is worth, what the hell am I doing wrong!?

so its been what 3 months since u visited the salon?

what was the salon doing interlocking or twisting

what i see there is healthy dreading but the salons forced tightening may have delayed actual maturity so the roots will be loose awhilke then tighyten mback up

they look fine overall tho

Hey soaring eagle! She did palm rolling when she retwisted my dreads I believe. I have been dreading my hair since the middle of 2008. How long do you think it will take for my scalp to be covered fully in hair? And will my skinny dreads eventually thicken? I have a lot of skinny ones at the top of my hair that I would like a bit thicker to match the ones at the back of my head. The dreads on my sides and back seem really good but some of them on the top are a bit on the skinny side (Always been like that since I started them).

ok i see what u mean now about the scalop showing through slightly down the center it looks like its coming back nicely just a tad on the thin side

if the twisting hadcaused traction alopecia most likely u will get 80% growback in 3-6 months wether u get 100% back is dependent on how bad it was and wether u did extra steps to gelp it grow back

thinning can persist for years eeven be pernmenat but i dont think yoirs was all that bad and ot looks like its recovering well

the thin ones..how bigs the area of yhe roots if they are small then the only way to thicken them is to let tj=hem congo

What does letting them congo mean and how do you do that? The area at the roots aren't big for the skinny dreads.

Also just a few questions, I have been sleeping using a skull cap which is isn't too tight but it barely leaves room for my dreads, should I stop wearing it and not sleep with anything on my hair? Also is alright I am using oils and water when my hair is dry? How do I know when my hair is dry? And is a soft scalp bad?

leave the cap off let em loosewhen u sleep

african hair does require extra moisture too much oils tho and it gets too slippery to hold a knot

u can feel when its try it just feels less soft ,

letting it congo just means stoo seperating and let them combine

u can force it by putting a bead over 2 dreads or wrapping 2 dreds together with hemp or embroidery thread

but as li[ong as u dont seperate the thinner ones they will join together
