Best wash for children and toddlers?

Dreads in the Family

Does she really need shampoo? I don't think small kids do unless they've actually got something nasty in their hair! My LOs, 8 and 5, don't use shampoo and haven't for years they just dunk their heads in the bathwater (no bubbles) and rinse well in the shower after the swimming pool. I stopped using shampoo and bath products on them because they were starting to get patches of eczema/dermatitis - which cleared up almost immediately and never returned.

The pressure to shave...for men.

General Talk

My late ex-hubby had a beautiful beard when we were married but he used to shave when he visited his mother because she didn't like her "little boy" in a beard lol

He got rid of it completelyafter we separated - I think I loved it more than he did!

The BEST things come to those who...

Introduce Yourself

Great start with lovely sectioning coming already. Are you intending to keep the undershave or to let that grow out and dread when it's long enough?

what's your opinion on dreadheadhq?

General Talk

Had to go over there and look... and I now know what all those things this forum keeps advising against actually are so that was helpful.

If I'd been unlucky enough to find their site first then their home page with the words "ok so there is some pain involved" would have made me go and find another method right away. Really, if something's painful doesn't that tell you that it's a bad thing!

Fringe help needed

Dreadlock Styles and Dread Styling

My fringe is hanging in the balance at the moment too. I haven't been combing it but it's too short to dread spontaneously at the moment so it's going to come down to whether I decide to trim it or not. I've always had a fringe of some sort so I think I'd probably feel strange without one - plus it covers up the lines on my forehead lol - so it will almost certainly be staying but I may try and make it a softer line so it blends in better.

finally letting go...

Introduce Yourself

If you like the tapered look I'd say that's fine. It's not much different from girls keeping a fringe/bangs after all. There are occasions when looking a bit neater than early dreads normally do can be helpful!

I expect the thing aboutrecedinghair relates to methods that pull the hair hard back and pull it out like retwisting etc, as you're not doing that you shouldn't have that problem anyway :)

dreads here I come

Introduce Yourself

If you just start looking after your hair in the right way to go naturally then it will be able to get on with dreading as soon as it feels ready - it may be sooner or later but either way you won't miss your own magic number moment :)

Separating questions

Dread Maintenance

I stopped brushing just 11 days ago and my hair is obviously very keen to dread. The problem is that it seems to have decided it all wants to be one huge felted blanket. After washing it (every 2-3 days with bicarb/vinegar) I've been trying to separate it by holding up the huge clumps and looking for natural divisions to separate it into - but by the following day it's all matting back again.

So my questions are am I doing the right thing; should I try to separate more often or do something else?

And will it naturally get to a point where it stops clumping so fast or should I try to keep the sections apart somehow and if so how?

The photo I've (hopefully) attached was taken yesterday morning when I had separated it all out the previous evening.
