how to prepare your hair for putting dreads in?

Introduce Yourself

hiya SE no im not looking for really thick dreads not at all,its just when that loctiion did my hair the sections were on average 1/2 inch some smaller and my so called dreads were like bits of string. not sure if this was because ofthe way she did it or due to my super thin hair, so was thinkin a 1 inch section would give me personally a medium thick dread. interested to know wot yoy think SE.

peace my bruva

nice one mons, thats exactly the sort of advice ive been looking for your a star. definatly gonna do both our hair the way you said. doing a bit of research on sectioning at the minute i know people say let them section themselves out naturaly but i think i want them to look quite uniform, natural but uniform. im thinkin of one inch sections i know this is as large as you should go but my hair is so straight and fine that im thinkin they will have to be this size for me to get any sort of thickness to them. wot do you think bruv ?

how to prepare your hair for putting dreads in?

nice one bruv.i am also in the process of taking my shitty loctition dreads out u should see the damage she done to my hair will have to give it a few weeks b4 i start again. the plan is to tnr 40ish dreads into my hair rather than the 100+ skinny ones i had. im thinkin that the best thing to do is tnr just the once and then totaly leave them alone and let nature take its course. would you agree that this is the best plan of action. your advice will be greatly appreciated.

peace bruv

My missus wants me to put a couple of dreads in her air, planning on doing tnr. Should she wash her hair as normal or should she shampoo only? Also with tnr do you just do it once then leave it alone completley to

do its own thing? Or should i do something to them reguarly?

Thinking of taking my dreads out and starting over....Where do i start??

Introduce Yourself

hiya bruv if i did decide to congo them so i had 50 medium thick dreads what do i need to do to get them to combine at the roots.

thanks for all your help.

u can congo them theyd only combine at tyhe roots however youd have 50 roots wich will be medium thick to slightly thin with 100 very thin ends

the wax wont be hard to get out of such thin dreads fortunately

but the interlocking will

if u choose to srart ob=ver soakin conditi0ner or olive oil comb out carefully with a soft brush 9if it works) or comb when u reach the interlock o]point u might want to try a knotting needle or fork to try to carefulty work that loose

then i would go natural or at least allow natural sections then tnr but i think u would be happiest with going natural

Thinking of taking my dreads out and starting over....Where do i start??

Introduce Yourself

Have already talked about the nightmare i have had with a loctition putting wax in and interlocking them. To be honest i wasn't really happy with how thin they all were, my hair is VERY fine anyway and just had my missus count them and there is over 100 alltogether. When the women sectioned them they were definatrly not an inch wide. No wonder they look like bits of string.

I have looked at loads of photos on here and can't find anyone who has dreads as thin as these. I can't help thinking that i just won't be happy with them even when theyhave matured becasue i can't see them thickening up that much.

I am thinking of taking them all out and starting again, and maybe doubleingeach sectionup. Do you think i should just stick it out and maybe congo a few together and hope they get a bit thicker or do you think i should take them all out and start from scratch? At least if i did start over i wouldn't be wasting any more money on these bullshit "loctitions".

Dread Maintenance

I am really glad i joined up now, hve been browsing picson this site for a while but am now getting some really helpful advice. When i decided to get dreads i really had no idea how to go about it sothought it would have to be in a salon. Ihave no drea tools at all just the shampoo. I am just wondering how to keep them dreading at the top and tips?My hair would not do anything if left alone it needs a helping hand but i am just unsure what the best thing to do is. I definately won't be wasting anymore money in the salon. I bought her a christmaspresant aswell to say thank you! fukka!

listen to all the great advice here. I as well went to a salon and I know she interlocked without telling me, after the salon a month or so later I started to really examine each dread and noticed scars on the dreads itself. By scars I mean a spot in the dread that is wayy to tight like a knot, unlike the very soft sponjy dreads above and below the scars. There is a scar on nearly half of my dreads from interlocking, she said she was just gonna crochet and backcomb a little, what a cunt. Good news, now 4 months after the salon and the scars aren't noticable to the eye, but will always be hard and tight because it is a knot, not a dread. I know people who have only knotlocks and there hair has gotten thinner and thinner and weaker every year. Stop any "professional" maintenence and throw any "dread" tools you have away, they just damage your hair so you have to keep using them..

Dread Maintenance

I have put loads of photos on my profile. Couldn't get them all on here. she did use bands but they were black and are all out now. The blue stuff is off a hat ive been wearing it's sort of entwined into the dreads. Do you think i should just rip it out. I have got sea salt, what do i do with it? In total shes charged me about 100 pound think thats around 150 dollars. I am washing with'Rasta locks twistTingle mango and lime shampoo' I don't know if you would get it in US.It says massages scalp, relieves itching, removes build up and gently cleanses. The lady who done them suggested it so i don't know if it's any good or if i should be using something else?
