Hi . I am new to this site and new to dreads. I went to get my dreads started off (as i had no idea where to begin) my hair is very very fine and soft. The lady divided my hair into lots of little sections and then backcombed them and put wax on. I then went home and left it for about a month and nothing at all happened. so i went back and she done the same thing again ... nothing happened so she then interlocked them and now they have started to dread (not at the root or the tip but in the middle part of the hair). I have read how terrible this is for your hair and as my hair is so fine anyway i am now concerned my dreads will fall out. I have left it too long to take the interlocks out but m wondering where i should go from here in terms of maintenance and making sure they carry on dreading. There are loads of loose hairs and parts that havnt started dreading yet. i also worry that where it has been interlocked it is in two strands before it comes to the dreaded bit so will these ever join and dread properly? My dreads are very thin aswell, will they thicken over time? Sorry it's quite a long post, don't really know where else to go for advice.

If it's at all possible, try to undo the interlocked parts. Wash 2-3 times a week. Clean hair deads, dirty hair will but it takes forever. Get some wax-b-gone and a shampoo bar from dreadlockshampoo.com. Remove that wax ASAP, that's one of the reasons it's not made any progress. Do 't back comb, don't interlock and do not use wax, at all. Save your money, use it to buy beads, colorful string, good shampoos.Dreads don't happen over night, it's called a journey for a reason. It takes time and patience then more time and patience. The only thing you need to do it wash them, separate when needed and love them.

she screwed u

wax was preventing dreading wax will keep u going back for more since they wont dread with wax in them so after 3 appointments each 1 scrweing you even more how much did she rip u off for?

toi dread all u had to do was stop combing ..thats it nothing more

your loose hairs will take care of them selves..but it takes a year

they will thicken if the sections arent too skinny

u must must must remove the wax

when the wax is gone u will dsee more progres in 2 weeks then u saw in months..even years

wax is evu=il and any salon that dares use it should be sued

are u white? this salon knew nothing at all

id demand a full refund ..if u could u should start over but if not then dewax dewax dewax 6 months frim now u can stop dewaxing u gotta dewax a long time after your sure its all gone cause it probly isnt

ok if they are as thin as u say maybe 2 months after your sure its all gone

the sooner u get the wax out the better

howed u get the wax out its not as easy as just washing it out it can survive 10 years of washing (in thicker dreads) if they are real thin your in luck

if the interlock was done just days ago u might be able to f=get it out by carefully feeding it back through if not then u gotta leave em in and hope for the best

they will be permenatly affected but that doesnt guarantee disaster just a permanent effect like a weurd gap or krinkle and a weaker spot

id still keep removing wax even if u tyink its all gone

and post pics

Hey dude.

She only put wax in at the first session and it was only a little bit, i have been washing it out since. Heres a load of pics of my hair with some close ups of the interlocking. I have just washed it again. It is nearly dry in these pics. What do you think?

she charged you for that?

whats the blue at the roots?

if rubber bands get them out

it kooks more like ruber bands that usr4d to be rubber bands but melted in

as far as interlocking goies sh did a horible job

i dont think she had a clue what she was doing

the sections dont look too thin so wgen they do dread right they wont be too bad

wax doesnt really wash out however since they wernt tight or thick or really anything but wax coated straight hair u might have got it out

whatever the blue is try to remove it and use sea salt to help em dred

what are u washing with

I have put loads of photos on my profile. Couldn't get them all on here. she did use bands but they were black and are all out now. The blue stuff is off a hat ive been wearing it's sort of entwined into the dreads. Do you think i should just rip it out. I have got sea salt, what do i do with it? In total shes charged me about 100 pound think thats around 150 dollars. I am washing with'Rasta locks twistTingle mango and lime shampoo' I don't know if you would get it in US.It says massages scalp, relieves itching, removes build up and gently cleanses. The lady who done them suggested it so i don't know if it's any good or if i should be using something else?

I am really glad i joined up now, hve been browsing picson this site for a while but am now getting some really helpful advice. When i decided to get dreads i really had no idea how to go about it sothought it would have to be in a salon. Ihave no drea tools at all just the shampoo. I am just wondering how to keep them dreading at the top and tips?My hair would not do anything if left alone it needs a helping hand but i am just unsure what the best thing to do is. I definately won't be wasting anymore money in the salon. I bought her a christmaspresant aswell to say thank you! fukka!

listen to all the great advice here. I as well went to a salon and I know she interlocked without telling me, after the salon a month or so later I started to really examine each dread and noticed scars on the dreads itself. By scars I mean a spot in the dread that is wayy to tight like a knot, unlike the very soft sponjy dreads above and below the scars. There is a scar on nearly half of my dreads from interlocking, she said she was just gonna crochet and backcomb a little, what a cunt. Good news, now 4 months after the salon and the scars aren't noticable to the eye, but will always be hard and tight because it is a knot, not a dread. I know people who have only knotlocks and there hair has gotten thinner and thinner and weaker every year. Stop any "professional" maintenence and throw any "dread" tools you have away, they just damage your hair so you have to keep using them..
