Help with dreads and work

General Talk

Im starting work soon and need some advice about what to do with my dreads. Im starting work at a mechanics and from working on my own car know how dirty my hair got. Just wondering if anyone could give me some advice as to what to do with them? Just tying them up isnt really enough and in hot weather a hat isnt really suitable... My dreads are pretty much shoulder length.

I have a problem with my dreads

Dread Maintenance

I will need to save some pennies then.

Will a bicarb soda soak do in the meantime?

I have a problem with my dreads

Dread Maintenance

Ok thanks a lot. I think i got impatient when rolling into a ball and pushing that into the dread didnt work.

I shall ditch the crochetting then.

I have been ensuring that every dread was it's own, guessing that is too much maintenance, should i let them knot together a bit more at the basis then?

I was told that the nutrogena was great and using it twice weekly was the way forward. If its not i will stop that too! What would be best to use? I do have a history of dry scalp so would like something that is moisturising etc Dont mind what just a lot of products dont seem to be for sale in the uk.

Im not tying the dreads at all as that bit is sore, im either using a cloth tube to hold them all or a single alice band to do the same.

I have a problem with my dreads

Dread Maintenance

I know they are damaging hence only having used it for large sections of hair that need it. I tried other methods first but it did not work.

My scalp is fine, about 6 months ago i started getting dandruff but was given some shampoo that was also anti fungal and my dandruff cleared up. I just use the nutrogena tgel stuff now. I havent been itchingconsciously.

The base looks thinner in real life but this is the best pic i can get...

I have a problem with my dreads

Dread Maintenance

Ive had my dreads for nearly 2 years now and have not used any products on them. I backcombed them in and they have been fine ever since. Every so often i have crocheted them gently to put large amounts of loose hair back in.

Basically i have 1 dread that is incredibly sore at the base, it has also thin a lot at the base and im beginning to worry it may thin more and break. I have not been using shampoo with residue nor have i used any other products. I'm also not crocheting the base of the dread so im a bit confused why its happening and only happening to this single dread.

Any help would be great :-)

Looking for some help with 5month old dreads

Dread Maintenance

The loops have just formed over time. Im not back combing anymore.

I need to tid the tips and the drying is not an issue. I either round the tips off to tidy or get rid, for work, so i just need the best method.

Looking for some help with 5month old dreads

Dread Maintenance

Hi all,

well ive had dreads for about 5months now and am loving them but need some advice on maintaining them a bit. Basically my hair was 15inc long or so and i back combed it all rather than any other method. I have rolled a little and tried to round the ends off too, which has worked n some.

The main thing im looking for help with are loops, which i seem to have a few of and the tips. I backcombed all of the ends and the really whispy bits left i have now cut off so at least if they loosten they still look flat rather than a bit messy.

How do i get nice knotted tips/ends.

Whats the best way to remove loops.

The loose hairs that come out whats the best way to get these knotted in as the rolling ball and pushing in method is lame in my opinion.

thanks in advance :-)

Dreads on children

General Talk

Hi all looking for some advice.

I would like my son to have dreadlocks when he is a bit older. My question is, is there a method that i can use that will allow dreads to form whilst he is growing up? My son is only 3 so i obviously dont want to start backcombing his hair, but he wants hair like daddy and i think dreads are really nice on children.

Basically i guess im asking if a natural method is suitable?

thanks in advance

Soap

Dread Maintenance

Ok thanks ill not use the lemon and water mixture then.

Would an olive oil bar soap be ok?

It has saponified olive oil, water and mineral salts in it.
