Dread starting to split

I have a fat dread that is starting to split near the scalp. Anyone that had this happened to theirs, I'd appreciate some suggestions. I figured I would wait it out and maybe cut the tip off when the two get long enough. I thought about trying to split it now, but I know most likely one would be really short. Thanks

Hi Ryan. No worries, as the dread grows, it will form together. Hair is normally loose at the scalp, even on mature dreads for about an inch, once it passes that point the section dreads. What might have happened is that you formed your sections when you did the twist & rip method instead of letting it section naturally for a couple of weeks, so that is the hair separating where it would have wanted to go. But yes, no need to do anything about it, just let it be and it will take care of itself.....peace

typical from forced sectioning but eventualy it will fuse back together no need to cut the tip off
