Sea salt is great for your locks. No problem at all with using it. It's the leaving it in that's the problem. Sea salt, and any other salt stays in your hair, and on your scalp, after the water dries. When this happens, it sucks moisture out of your hair and scalp, making your hair brittle, and over drying your skin. If your scalp hasn't gotten itchy yet, you're lucky. But it will over time. And the itchiness can become unbearable as your skin can't remoisturize itself fast enough. This can cause serious dandruff and other scalp problems like excess sebum excretion

Welcome. Just checking, but when you use sea salt, do you make sure to wash it out within a few hours? it should never be left in long term

Welcome to the community Curtis, glad to have you here with all of us. There is a product to help hair growth, called Biotin, and can be found in the vitamin section of local drug stores and some department stores. Take 6000mcg daily for hair growth, not sure if it strengthens also-but it does strengthen finger nails. If you can't find that strength, just add up tablets to equal it, very safe....under $10...not sure if this is what you meant to thicken your dreads....ratios for BS wash: http://www.dreadlockssite.com/forum/topics/ratios-baking-soda-wash-apple-cider-vinegar-rinse-sea-salt-mix
