Will my roots dread?

i have fine/wavy hair, so the roots are loose. i know i've been told they will, but i was wondering if i can get some reassurance from other people with dreadlocks.

is there anything i should do to help them? i've heard of backcombing the roots, and also rolling them.

or should i just let them be, and they will dread on their own?

Just let them be. The roots will knot up just by the movement of swinging free. I never ever do anything to my roots. They knot up just fine.

Baby dreads will have more unknotted roots then mature dreads. up to 3 inches is normal. Any maintenance that you do on them can be damaging.
