I have about 2 inches of hair, and bangs are 3 inches long. Caucasion hair. I usually just hand spike it, but i dont really brush it. Its pretty dry from being died. What would be a good method of getting things started? IM guessing backcombing would be out of the deal since its so short!Thanks

natural is always best but wont start till u gain length usualy (mine started shorter so have others) twist and rips better then backcombing by far but works best in 4 inchesso just be patient stop combing stop using products wash with residue free soap or baking soda let it dread as it grows

Cool avatar, I think you should go as natural as possible too.
Ive been trying to do it all natural since i initally cut my hair 3 months ago. I dont ever brush it, no reason to with it being so short.
yea it just needs to grow it'll get there if u get impatient twist n rip when u get lil more lengthoractualy u can go natural from short by forcing on beads onto sections that will sorta get dreading going (worked for me anyway)

Seems like yours is much like mine was when it started forming. I just let it grow out into dreads. Backcombing and tnr is really just to have more control over the size, shape and position of them.
Here is how long it is now. I only use water to spike it.

I dont condition, im lazy. I just use whatever is in the shower, sometimes baby shampoo, sometimes my hubby's stuff, or heck even a bar of soap.Im trying the twist and rip with bands on the end. i have a few tiny knots. Its pretty fried from yesterdays dye job, and no i didnt use conditoner. soaringeagle said:

Could i just put bands all over my hair ends and let it knot up? They are clear
