Day 27

By Autumn2, 2012-10-27

Feeling kinda discouraged today. Going to try and just push through it, so close to the one-month mark!

Day 25

By Autumn2, 2012-10-25

Post work, post yoga, and post bath! My baby dreadies are all tuckered out from a full day. Can't believe that I haven't combed or brushed my hair for almost a full month now... it feels like some progress! :)

They like to....

Bask in the sun

Blow in the wind from a rolled down car window

Drip heavy with rain

Swim in a natural spring

Rest on my pillow

Hang upside down during headstands

... among other things.

Day 20

By Autumn2, 2012-10-20

Happy Saturday, dreadies! I hope that you all have an awesome day today. The weather here cooled off overnight (thankfully!) and I am looking forward to spending a whole free day in paradise with my hubster. No work, no BS! :)

I used up all of my salt spray mix yesterday doing a pretty massive salt water soak, so I was able to do a new fragrance oil blend yesterday. The first mix I had was lavender/spearmint, and now I mixed up a batch that hopefully will repel mosquitoes as well as smelling good: cedarwood, citronella and lavender.

The salt water soak seemed to really exaggerate the separation, and it made me notice that so far, it looks like my natural dreads are wanting to be little spaghetti thin dreads. Which is okay by me, even though I do love the look of fatties. :P

Anyhow, my scalp has been doing awesome and has really settled down after that rough first week and a half. Still finding the odd comb stashed here and there, and I am seriously contemplating recycling a lot of them, if that is possible. Anyone know what # of plastic (i.e., 1, 2, 5....?) combs are usually made of and if they are recyclable? My hubster doesn't even use them even though he doesn't have dreads, because he always keeps super short hair.

Love and peace.

Day 16

By Autumn2, 2012-10-16

So, good morning dreadies! I hope that everyone is having a good day so far. I am optimistic this morning. I have three more days of work before my next break, and I am already looking forward to it. I see so much possibility in each day now.

Getting ready in the morning has been a lot easier, not worrying about hair or makeup. Just shake and go.

Yoga last night was good. It was the realization that I am very uptight, and the awareness and loosening of that has got to be healthy. It kind of feels like a weight is being lifted.

So keep on the journey, my friends!

Have a great day.

Namaste.

Day 14... Two Weeks In

By Autumn2, 2012-10-14

Yes, knots are definitely forming. Locs? Not yet. But knots. And waves, and cowlicks! So now I bravely look forward to celebrating the one month mark. The separation is becoming increasingly defined, to where I now feel like calling my hair "my little ropes." It already feels different, because when it is down it doesn't feel like loose hair, because it is clumping around my neck and around the back the most. Especially down that first bottom half. This slow evolution has been so interesting to take in and observe. Each day brings something new and yet the change is slow enough that it is not shocking to me or those around me. It feels a bit like growing up taller as a child. One day you are here, then a summer passes, and the next thing you know you have shot up like a bean stalk seemingly overnight. Except that it has not been overnight, but rather a slow and gradual change, that no one seems to notice until "one day."

So yes, dreads. All two weeks of you has been totally worth it and totally an adventure. Kudos and good luck to all of those on the natural journey.

Namaste.

End of Day 12

By Autumn2, 2012-10-12

So there have been some big developments. Turns out, my baby dreads have started to affect me from the inside before they start showing on the outside. Because today I did two things that I would not have had the braveness to do previously.

First, I signed up for a yoga class and went. (Had a great time.) Then, I ended up staying for a kirtan afterwards. It was the first one that I ever went to, and I had an even better time! In fact, the guy that was playing sitar / guitar even mentioned the Rainbow Family. In so many ways, I just was being sent messages from the Universe to unblock my mind and heart and to embrace my true self. So awesome. Seriously. And it all started here.

So thank you.

Day 12

By Autumn2, 2012-10-12

So day 12, and it seems like my hair is finally starting to really section and knot up. However it is only sectioning and knotting up from the bottom 1/2. Is this normal?

At any rate and regardless... it is another good hair day. I washed this morning. Gently shook dry and I was off and ready to go for the day. Feel great. And I am off from work today and tomorrow. YAY!
