Reasons to cut your dreads.

General Talk

I work as i security guard, and i know at least 1 throw and 2 armbars that counters someone gripping your hairXDAnd i just got a message from my new boss that i'm gonna get fired if i don't cut my hair.I'm not cutting my hair just because someone wants me to, so i filed a report against him, and made a lawsuit out of it, so now he probably has to pay a fine, and for the cost of the lawsuit XD

lice a dreadlocks worse nightmare

Dread Maintenance

you could try dying them. A friend of mine got lice in his dreads, and they all died after dying the dreads, as there are LOADS of poison and shit in the chemicals they use...

Dreads and travell

General Questions

I'm going on a two month long trip in april, im visiting the US, South Africa, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Thailand and China, and a family friend of mine who have done some travelling sugested that i should cut of my dreads, because the people in the customs will become suspicious, and because she thinks they attract trouble.Have any of you guys had any experience on this topic? Has anyone got any tips?I also wondered if there would be any problems with bugs and the likes in my dreads, and if i should spray them with bugspray or something? (i do not use any hairproducts in my dreads)Any advice would be apreciated!

Dreadlock removal method

Dreading Methods

a friend og mine used muh of the same method, but started with a week where he carried a bottle of conditioner spray with him at all times, and just kept spraying his dreads and loosened them with his fingers and/or a pencil to get rid of the worst locks, then moved over to use a comb when the week was done.It worked out really well! with little damage to the hair, considdering that his dreads were three years old!

What about lice in dreadlocks?

Dread Maintenance

Acctually, you could just dye your dreads at a saloon. Just dye them in your natural collor, the chemicals are so poisionus that the lice and their eggs die. I friend of mine tried it, and it solved the problem:)But if you wanna go natural, and not damage your scalp with chemicals, listen to soaringeagle:P

Dread shedding

Dread Maintenance

Hi, i have had my locks for a year now, and they have becomed nice and tight, but i am kind of worried, because the hair some of my dreads are attatched to my scalp with are much thinner than the actual dread, so i am kind of worried that two of them eventually will come off.... has anyone experienced this? any tips to how i should prevent this from happen? i have considdered sewing new hair into the dread, but that will damage them... any other way to get the hair around it to dread into it?

The truth of Backcombing is Unraveled (literally)

Dreading Methods

A good way to "cure" oily hair, is just to stoop washing it so often with shampoo, go a couple of weeks without shampooing your hair more than once a week, just use water the other days, and it will become much less oily, as it is no loger "used" to be washed clean of oils every other day;) Jo said:
It's thyme that helps with oily hair right?

well...in most cases
oily hair can be slow so oil reduction is needed 1st
i can say mine dreaded naturaly so fast i really cant remember there being a messy period betwee n dreaded and undreaded..it was 20 years ago but the time that it took to dread seemed like days but im assumming it was weeks.. id guess in 2-3 weeks or so most were dreaded enough to get "nice dreads" comments

Seems that if you keep them clean with residue free shampoo it still takes about the same amount of time to fully lock up whether you backcomb or not.

Good wax removal tips

Dread Maintenance

I myself were stupid enought to wax my locks... but the second i did it i regretted the decision, and wanted to remove the shit from my locks. This thread is for dreadheads who made the bad decision of waxing their dreads, and contains tips for how to properly remove it.Personally, i grabbed a bottle of green soap, the same soap you use for washing floors and sutch, and used it as shampoo. Worked really well, I used it every time i washed my hair until the bottle was empty, and it managed to get all the wax away so my dreads looked good again. The best part of it was that the thing were resiude free, and dryed the hair so it locked up good and thight. And to top it, it smelled like pine needle!:D
