Freeform Dreadlocks 14yr. Anniversary
Today I celebrate my 14yr. freeform dreadlocks anniversary. In 1998 I began my journey into becoming more of my natural self by leaving the combs, brushes,commercial shampoos,etc... behind me. I have learned quite a bit about my hair that I was not aware of. Mainly that I don't need to do anything but keep them clean and they will form all on their own.
I have dealt with a lot of negativity in the beginning but the strange thing is that the longer they get the less threatening they seem to people. Mine are in all kinds of sizes and shapes and lengths and I love it. It is so totally freeing not waking up and wondering how to wear my hair on any particular day. I have saved so much time and money!
I found that ever since embarking on this journey I have becoming more and more confident within my skin. I came from a large family and don't talk to any of them anymore. My mom thought my locks were disgusting. And after all of the negativity she expressed about my appearance I disowned her. I got rid of a lot of negativity in my life. And not too long ago my mom passed away. I didn't go to see her on her death bed or go crying at her grave. She never could accept me as I was. As an artist,an individual and not a clone of America.
I hope you all feel free to be who you are because it is a hell of lot easier than trying to please the masses .Be you and be proud to be you!

I completely agree with your acknowledgement of our uniqueness.In a world of over a million souls I believe that the like-minded come to earth at the same time to eventually meet so that they don't feel so isolated and different. It used to bum me out when I would think that I met someone that is very much same in my way of thinking and viewing the world and it turns out sometimes that person or persons are just there to learn from the uniqueness and to challenge their belief systems. I think I am a systems buster. This system does not serve anyone except for the ones who created the system. We both break systems just by being our outstandingly,magnificently introspective selves. We travel far beyond the ego and show our spiritual selves day in and day out.
I thank you for being such a beautiful soul and shining so brightly for all to see. You keep shining in all that you do. We are walking works of art from out head down to our feet. We have come here to remind people of the freedom they can obtain if only they believe in themselves.

You are an amazing individual, i have this uncanny ability to visualize any thing i read or hear, aesthetically. Its like a vivid illustrations that plays in my mind. As i read your passage(s) i feel a deep sorrow, of pain, frustration and anguish- however i sense peace, tranquility, admiration and oneness as well. I'm thinking..... by you going through your adversities, you have manifested into a phenomenal, captivating, artistic beautiful Goddess. "I get you" I hope not to come off too cheeky, but you are like the only person on this entire site that i sincerely "Overstand" You have a tangible realism. In conclusion i feel we both are deemed Emeritus, of cognitive dissonance, in this vast crazy mixed up world.....

Keep doing your thing good girl! I'm so proud of you for standing up to the masses, including your mother. People can be so ignorant and petty. I wish I knew how to start my locks off, but I dont. I am going go have to go to a salon unfortunately to get the parts right. I don't want starter salon locks,but I don't have a choice. Love your dreads!
