Welcome. At best, wax just prevents locks from forming. It glues your hair down and stops it from looping and tangling. That means no knots form. If knots don't form, locks don't form. Wax just makes it look like you have locks, because they are shaped like them.

Welcome. Do you mean 1/2 inch of hair? That is still way to short to stat locking. For natural locks to start knotting, you need about 5 inches of hair.
