ive seen ppl lose dreads diving in a pool or taking a shower from crocht damage and seen 1 guy on fb put his dreads through a seweing machine to sew em back together ause the hook did so much damage
Welcome. I guess I don't have to say any more that what has been said already. Barrellady's right. If you only want locks for the look, and only plan to keep them for a few years, crocheting will make them look "ok" right away. But if you ever plan to take them out, you'll have to cut your hair, because if you comb them out, your hair will be all different lengths from the amount of damage and ripping that crocheting does. Even 1 session with a hook will do tons of damage. It also delays progress by up to 6 months for just one session.
If you want to keep your locks for years (maybe life), throwing the hook away and helping to loosen your locks up is the only way to do it.
Unfortunately, many people don't realize that when we say locks take time to mature, we mean years, not weeks or months. Mature locks need about a full year to form. They will be frizzy and loose for the first 6-8 months. The 4th is almost always the messiest for most people. But after that, they tend to start coming together more and the frizzieness dies down. They will always have some frizz, but it's so minimal that only you'll notice it because you look at your locks from inches away instead of the feet away most people will see them from
Welcome Sandi. Soaring Eagle has heard & seen so many unfortunate locks falling to the ground due to crochet hooks. This harmful way breaks the hairs inside the dread into little small pieces, it leaves no long strand of a single hair anywhere. If you want to keep your dreads for years to come, then never pick up the hook again or visit a salon.
Some of the younger members on this site have dreads as a cool style, and maybe only for a year or two, so they want the dread look right away. If this is you, then I say to have fun with them while they last! Peace

welcome but crochet hooks are extremely extremely bad for dreads!
and bri[onners will not work in hard water so check to see if u have hard water where u live
and throw the hook away it will take a very long time to recover from crochet abuse
