Welcome. I love the name Sequoia too. I'm still trying to convince my wife to name our daughter that if we have one.

Back combing isn't a terrible method to use. It does some damage, but it's better than crocheting. If you really want to start over, you can soak your head in conditioner and gently brush out your hair. It can take some time, but a few members have combed out mature locks in the past few months
