Welcome. Hopefully you only crocheted the 1 time when you started. Crocheting is actually one of the worst things you can do to locks. It's even worse than wax. Wax can be washed out with a good detergent and weeks of scrubbing. The damage from crocheting is permanent. But if you stop, over time it will heal it'self a bit. But even from the first time, it delays progress by about 6 months. So instead of having mature locks in about 1 year, it'll take about 1.5 years.
What crocheting does is shreds your hair into smaller and smaller pieces with each pass of the hook. So instead of having all of the hair attached to your scalp, only the inch or so near your root is attached. The rest is just broken hair weaved into other broken hairs, and other hairs, and so on and so on. This makes locks extremely weak, so that in years, they can get so weak that they can't support their own weight, and a light tug will be able to snap on in half.
One session won't cause this to happen. But if you use the hook as maintenance, it will. There's a good reason they sell crochet hooks at art stores, near the yarn. That's what they are designed for. Not for hair.
As for the shampoo. Check the ingredients. I don't think their shampoo contains any wax. But if it does, you'll need to do some wax removal sessions to get it out.
