Hi! Thanks for the compliment, but it's still early days for me, though I have whatched many videos on youtube, I'm still very inexperienced.

I prefer the twist and rip process, this can be done in varying tightness, so you could go for a more natural look by leaving them less tight.. but twist and rip generally creates very cilindrical and neat looking dreads early on. Apparently this method also takes longer to "shrink" so you'll have neat dreads but without so much loss of length (I guess).

I believe that the size of the dread wil limit the number of dreads you have, the thicker you go. It really depends on what type and how much hair you have. I have thick hair and a fair amount of it. But looking at some progress timelines, I see that even if you start with thinner sections, as they dread (after about 1 year) they thicken up quite a bit!

My sections were roughly squarish, about 2-3-4 cm in width. I didn't follow any strict grid, just making sure to stagger the sections (like brick-laying) so that I don't end up with parting lines / bald areas.

I washed my hair about the 2nd day in, and as I had put rubber bands at the root and tip of the dreads, they didn't fall out. In fact I'm almost thinking that washing / swimming with them could help them dread. I used normal shampoo, (a minimal amount in the hair) making sure to wash it out thoroughly and also dry it quickly! (to avoid it getting mouldy)

Whatever be your path, good luck!

Thanks for the advice about the lock peppa and all, it did feel good using it but after a couple of days without using it, your dreadlocks do feel looser, I'm going to stop using dread products and just let em grow now I think, tnr is enough of a start for me, I've learned so much and I don't think I've even been on here a day haha, I have heard a lot that dread wax and "dread shampoo" is a rip off and can cause damage most people say, that I've heard, use tea tree and other oils for itching, and baking soda for washing, thanks for all the welcomes. x

Actually lot of people have commented here the dreadheadhq products are not good for dreads.

What's your opinion about the lock peppa?.

I used the dreadheadhq shampoo and it made me itchy and caused me dandruff. I got used to that feeling until I finished the bottle. But now I'm about to switch to ACV and baking soda. Pretty much I try to be careful on what to use in my hair. I take lots of advices from this webpage, is very helpful. And people here is super kind.

Welcome. But the lemon is going to eventually make you more itchy and in the end destroy your hair. Lemon is citric acid. It is a strong acid that gets inside the hair shaft and breaks it down. The bleaching that occurs from using lemon juice many times over time is actually your hair weakening and degrading.

If you get itchy, you can make a spray out of jojoba oil and peppermint oil, and water. Just a few drops of peppermint will cool your scalp down and soothe it. No more itchies.
