Welcome. Styling gel will actually only help to delay progress. I it's sticky, it will hold hairs in place instead of allowing them to move around and knot. If you prevent them from knotting, they can't become locks easily.
welcome the gels not a good idea and i hope you know not to retwist! twists are a fine way to start but when you retwist it causes traction alopecia (the scalp showing look salons call "tidy" wich if you keep retwisting can become widespread balding
