Which is best for my hair?

I've been looking into a lot of different ways to start dreads, but I'm unsure which way is best for my hair. I was originally going to twist and wait, but I'm trying to find a simpler alternative.
One of my friends told me freeform dreads could be started simply by washing my hair in a circular motion with black soap 2-3 times a week.
