Bleached my Dreads...

Help! Save My Dreads

Last night I bleached and dyed my dreads. I bleached and dyed them about 5 weeks ago as well....

anyway, this is what I did. I used the 20 volume SalonCare brand developer with Ion Color Brilliance powder bleach. the bleach was NOT rubbed into my dreads, my SIL and I painted the bleach on top of the dreads using the dye brushes from Sally's. after the bleach was on, I put my dreads up in a ponytail and put on a shower cap. I put my blow dryer on low and blow dried around the shower cap keeping the dryer about a foot away from my head at all times. I did this for 15 minutes, then went to my bath tub and rinsed. I rinsed for about 30 minutes under the spigot, long after I stopped seeing the blue bleach coming out. The water ran clear and without suds for at least 10 minutes. There was also no bleach smell in my dreads. I allowed my dreads to air dry, then I rinsed again and let them dry, then rinsed one more time and blow dried them. Then I proceeded to dyeing the dreads, and just dyed them like normal rinsing until the water ran clear afterward.

Today, my dreads seem a little looser. I don't know, they just seem weaker and... i want to say stretchy. i pulled some individual hairs out of a few dreads and those hair are not stretchy. it's almost like the dreads are just a looser so when I pull on the end of the dread there is a little bit of slack. is that normal?

Positive Reactions?

General Talk

my dreads are pretty wild at 5 months. but i can honestly say i haven't gotten any negative comments from strangers.

The other day I was driving home and had to pay a toll, and the woman at the toll booth said "i have to say i am in love with your hair!"

I've had people ask if they can touch them because they've never touched dreads before. I've had people ask how you're supposed to wash them. I've had people randomly tell me they look cool or that they want to dread too.

a friend of ours, the first time i met him, was rolling. he kept saying how badass he thought my dreads are.

the only negative comment i have gotten is from my mom when she says that she misses my curls. but she doesn't dislike my dreads, i guess it's just a big change. oh and when my uncle said "so you don't wash your hair?" which i corrected him lol.

Can you cut dreads?

Dread Maintenance

Oh no i don't force them to blunt, i just have a lot that are doing it on their own. i do blow dry my locs sometimes if they are taking a long time to dry and it's getting close to bed time.

Can you cut dreads?

Dread Maintenance

Obviously I wouldn't plan on cutting them for.... years, probably many years. But I think butt length is the max length I can handle. so, when that day comes, can I cut them a little bit shorter? If so, how would that be done?

Dread sectioning and size upon maturity

Dreading Methods

well, one of them is about 2.5 inches by about 1/4 inch at the widest part of the root. toward the top and bottom of the root it gets thinner. the actual dread is about 2.5 inches in diameter at the fattest part.

Dread sectioning and size upon maturity

Dreading Methods

I'm about 4 months into dreading. I started off with neglect but had some crazy hair in the back that wanted to be on giant dread despite separating them a million times a day. So I TnRd. recently, someone said that the size of the root is how fat the dread will be upon maturity. My sections have no order, i just grabbed hair where it felt right, and TnRd. the root of some of my dreads is pretty big. not really wide, but long if that makes sense. 2 are about 2.5 inches long. are these going to be giants??
