Uploaded some pics of my progress...

Introduce Yourself

I would wear them open but I constantly have to push my hair out of my face and I don't want to fingerbrush my hair in the process. When I take it out of a ponytail it usually stay in the same position for a while and I'll wear it like that. I can't wait til I get my tam though, then I'll only have to wear a ponytail a few days out of the week at one of my jobs.

Hi!

why not wearing your babydreads open like in your avatar pic?

I only wear a tam when it rains, and my hair dreads on the sides and back simular.

But a tam works def better than a ponytail!

good progress!

I hate having it in a ponytail. Can't wait til I get a hat for it. I don't normally sleep on my face, usually on my side or back. Could that be a factor?

Check out my new pics and let me know what you think. I'm still trying to figure out why the back has not started to dread yet. Could it be from constantly wearing it in a ponytail?

I'm also going to order a tam, but am undecided on which one I should get....I went to Hippie Willow and thought about the Black Wool Slouchy Hat Dreadlock Tam - #38w, and the Wool Striped Slouchy Hat Dreadlock Tam #14w

The first looks like it might work, but mentions chin length hair and mine is between chin length and shoulder length. I like the one with the bill, but will order in different colors.

Anyway Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Dying dreadlocks

Introduce Yourself

Yeah I probably won't dye my hair, but I wonder about the temporary spray that they have at carnivals and fairs.

Dying dreadlocks

Introduce Yourself

That's a solid idea, but I think my hairline is starting to recede now. Either that or I have one hell of a widow's peak. I hear that you go by your mom's dad to see if you're going to go bald and in that case I will. My other grandpa is bald too. I may end up looking like Hulk Hogan. haha

Dying dreadlocks

I've always thought white hair was cool to look at. I guess Raiden from Mortal Kombat and Wizards fueled my intrigue regarding this, but I was wondering if there was any way to safely dye dreads white? I looked up white dreadlocks on google and surprise surprise (sarcastically) the only results turning up where "white people with dreads". I remember the twins from the Matrix Reloaded looked pretty cool with white locs but haven't seen any other picture of someone with white dreads. I'm sure they were probably wearing wigs, but if it can be done I think it would be fun.

Sorry to hijack this convo but I would also love to live off the land. I have always wanted to own a few acres and set it up to be self sufficient. That is one of my goals in life. I love technology, but I also have a deep appreciation for nature. I have much respect for my Indian (Native American) ancestors and how they respected their environment.

Argan Oil shampoo

Introduce Yourself

Yeah when I read about dimethicone I found out it was a plastic. That got me thinking about all the ingredients in food that people don't know the meaning of. We're probably eating plastic too.

Heather said:

dimethicone is a silicone. its used in hair products to coat the cuticles of the hair for smoothness and manageability. it really isn't good for anyones hair because it causes build up and it should definitely be avoided for dreads. a wash with a clarifying shampoo would be a better option. just avoid ingredients that end in -cone.

Argan Oil shampoo

Introduce Yourself

Yeah when the lady said it helps with moisturizing ( I asked her about stuff for dry scalp), I was thinking about it conditioning too. From using the ACV once a week I think that was too much and caused my hair to loosen up. It could have been from the natural process to since my dreads were just beginning but I stopped using it altogether. She then took me to some ethnic shampoo which she was probably just trying to be helpful, but on the bottle it stated for medium to coarse hair textures and I don't think my hair is that texture.

I have te argon oil shampoo and I use it every few weeks and it works just fine for me :) my dreads are locking up good but it seems to be kind of conditioning so that's why I only use it a little bit :)
