Meetup - Atlas Shrugged movie, Philadelphia, sometime around April 15th?

General Talk

I don't think I'm going to be able to go. I feel horrible for starting up an idea and then changing my mind afterwards. I have been having problems with my chronic fatigue and it's bad enough that I have hardly even been able to get up and go to work. When I think of making the trip I feel like I cannot possibly do it. As for seeing the movie itself I will be able to see it later somehow. If I want to meet you and the other people in the forum I might have to go to some other meetup later if I am feeling well enough, but I won't be able to get down there now. :(:(

General Talk

Okay, hi SE :) I will find out more about it, because I don't know where it's playing or anything like that. So I'll write some more later as I find out about it.

And also, I might not mind going there more than once. There might be a lot of competition as people try to get tickets all on April 15th, and they might get sold out - who knows. It doesn't have to be on the very first day that the movie opens. It could be some time after April 15th if necessary. I don't know how long the movie will be playing.

Meetup - Atlas Shrugged movie, Philadelphia, sometime around April 15th?

General Talk

I don't know if Atlas Shrugged is coming to State College, but I do know it will be playing in Philadelphia and I want to see it.Now I was thinking. Soaring Eagle, aren't you in Philadelphia? I don't know what my work schedule will be like that week, but I want to go to Philadelphia to see the movie. If anyone else is interested in going there too, let me know. I also thought it might be a chance to visit Soaring Eagle at the same time while we were there (even if he didn't want to see the movie), but that would require some planning.Anyone interested? I'm going to Philadelphia sometime to see the movie regardless of whether I can find anyone else to go with me, but I thought I would ask.

diary of a dread abuser

Help! Save My Dreads

:) I like the 'drug abuse' analogy. It all sounds so real. (It IS real!)

It's wonderful to look at the beautiful people here. I feel deprived when short hair is all that I see around me.

General Talk

I know many other people have said exactly that same thing. But I have to say it too. I'm glad to come here and see all the photos of beautiful people with long hair. It really frustrates me to be surrounded by short-haired men and women all the time. There is nothing to look at and nothing to touch. But I feel happier just seeing lots of photos of random strangers with long hair and dreadlocks (and beards, too, though this isn't a beard-oriented website). The need to see beautiful people with long hair feels like a physical, instinctive need to me. It's like seeing pictures of beautiful natural scenery. I just don't enjoy looking at short-haired people. I think that long hair is meant to signify that a human is physically healthy, and short hair is supposed to mean that the person is sick and their hair has fallen out. This is my 'evolutionary' explanation of what long hair means and why I instinctively love the sight of it and feel deprived when it's gone. This is actually a huge subject to talk about and I've been thinking for a while now about writing a more serious article explaining in depth my theory of hair and evolution.

We need a "My hair won't naturally dread" support group!

Dreading Methods

This seems like the appropriate place to mention that it's possible to go even further into extreme neglect, but it's something most people are not comfortable doing. It could be called the 'ascetic' method. It will get reliable results quickly. You are able to wash your hair one last time thoroughly with only shampoo, get out any residues, and then, stop using shampoo of any kind, completely. You rinse your hair with plain water only, as often as you want. After a few days, you will see the oil building up on your hair. Keep waiting. Don't wash it. You will have to resist the temptation to wash your hair with some kind of shampoo, and you'll sit there wondering if you can use some other substance that will be similar to shampoo or soap. Use only water and resist the temptation. Your hair will definitely look greasy by now. It will start driving you crazy and you will feel disgusting. After a few weeks, your hair will stick together in greasy strings. This is too gross for most people to tolerate, and that is why most people don't do their dreads using no shampoo and extreme neglect. This is the way that I made mine. If you can put up with this, you will have sticky strings in a couple weeks. A short time later, the roots closest to the head will start to form mature, matted, 'real' dreadlocks, while the hair farther away from the scalp will still be just a string of hair that is hardly tangled at all. You don't need to worry about whether your hair is tangling or not. The greasy strings keep the hair sticking together enough to make the roots get matted. That is the 'desert island' method of getting locks. That is why humans had locks before shampoo and soap were invented, and that is how the donkeys and dogs and other animals who have locks are doing it without backcombing or washing or anything.

a great dream i had last night

Life Issues Facing Dreads

I can't see anything bad in this dream. It looks like it's reassuring you to be patient because the results will be great if you wait long enough. In other words stick with it even if you have days when your hair annoys you and you get the urge to cut it or change it. That's just my impression of the dream.

What are your reasons for not growing a beard?

General Questions

I think you'd have to find a way to either braid up the beard or twist it up into sort of a bun, because it might snag on things or light on fire if you leaned over the stove. D: I know someone who (briefly) lit his hair on fire when he tried to light a cigarette, while holding the cigarette in his mouth, by leaning over the gas burner on the stove! A beard would be even more likely to do that sort of thing. So there has to be a way to confine the hair in dangerous situations.
