how do i dread hair growing in hair?

My dreads are new but I just wanted to know how im suppose to dread hair that grows out because my hair grows extremely fast.

I started my dreads a week ago and put some rubberbands on to hold but when do I take them out?

I have no idea how he ties em but I love soja and Ive seen then in concert and upclose and some of his. Dreads on top and in the back aren't tied at all, they just locked in an upward direction.
