My dreads are too small

Dread Maintenance

Update:My first try was completed by October 19, 2010, but I soon found that they were way to loose and a bit small compared to what I wanted. I gave it a shot though, but during Christmas I washed my hair properly (something I had been reluctant of doing, afraid that they would come out) and afterwards only 8 dreads (out of about 80-90) remained and they were so loose that I only spent one hour combing them out.But I really liked my dreads so I decided to give my very straight hair another go and on January 5, 2011, I finished my second go, and they look and feel so much more like the real deal and sizewise they have also improved from 80 to 40 so know they are nice and fat. And the best - I can even wash them properly! And now 10 days later they are still perfect and home for a knottsleeve sleeve

My dreads are too small

Dread Maintenance

Thanks everybody, for answers and picturesI have approx. 85 dreads so they will be thin but not skinny I believe. I've decided not to combine them now but to eait and see, and actually let my hair guide the way as I decided at the beginning. Sometimes it's just nice to hear others say it.:-)

Thanks, I'll just let them be then. I'm just so hooked on decorating them, and right now they are to small for most beads and definately to small for the pretty, pretty sleves I've fallen in love with on etsy (judging by your name, made by you)

My dreads are too small

Dread Maintenance

Well I started a little over a month ago. From start I wanted small dreads, don't know why, perhaps I thought they would look more conform or something.Well I cant complain about my dreads, they behave and are starting to loop and loock a tiny bit allready, and the stay within the very small sections I made.So whats the problem then? It's me, I want dreads because I think the are beautifull and because I think the idea of dreads gives meaning to how I fell about my self - so it's not at all to be conform, and now I think they are to small.I just love that thet are allready starting to lock and dread for real, but I'm thinking og combing them all out and making bigger sections. But I could also try to join/congo them. I've allready tried that with a couple of the smallest, I just collected them with a bead and Tn'R the end together, but how much can I do that, some of my dreads are fine but I would be doing it a lot, to get the sizes I wan't and I'm afraid that my sections would look really odd and perhaps give some uneven tear on the roots. And one more question, schould I join/congo them now or when they have dreaded if I choose thatWhat would you recommend?

Half n' half

Introduce Yourself

Well thats how far I am right now. I started thursday but where playing with my kids all weekend so the project wasn't finished. Tomorrow my little sister is coming to help me with the back, and then probably they will be finished.I'm using the twist n' rip method and it seems like it is working, my end are a bit loose and a couple of the dreads have come out, but other than that I really like them.I've decided to make them quite small, and I assume that I will end up with about 80 dreads.I came up with the idea of dreads from a friend, who has also just started on a dreadlock journey of her own, and the idea really got to me. I love the wild elflike look, and the whole idea of the relaxed lifestyle. I'm really looking forward to this journey and to observe the secret life of my own hair.Apart from the hole dreadthing, i'm 29 years old, married to my wonderfull husbond and blessed with 2 small children on 2 and 5 years old. I work as an external lecturer, on a business school and I really hope my students will accept my new hair, as it is a bit unusual in a business enviroment.
