My TnR timeline - update at 25 months

Member Journals and Timelines

Thanks :-) Although I can't take any credit, of course ;-)Kristy, the one I call Shorty (had to name it, it did the weirdest looping-up-and-down thing the first weeks and now feels very mature) is about 3 inches now :-)

My TnR timeline - update at 25 months

Member Journals and Timelines

So, apparently my dreads have NO respect for the whole journey concept. I mean, I thought this was going to be a slow development thing, but clearly I am not the one in control here ;-) Funny thing is, 5 years ago I started dreads with backcombing and palmrolling (no wax), and in 11 months not ONE of them locked up the way they have done now. Interesting, huh?

It's been 6 weeks now. My hair was about mid back when I started, and now I think the ones that have shrunk the least have lost about 4 inches in length, whereas the shortest have lost 13 inches, give or take.

So here are some pictures:

Day 1

Day 4

Day 13

Day 19

1 month

Shorty at 1 month :-)

6 weeks

The one that has shrunk the most, I think :-)

Happy dreaded me :-)

that's exactly like my experience, with washing.and the reason i sleep on both sides is because i have 2 children and sleep between them :-Dsounds painful, separating the ones in the back! mine are locked up at the roots in the back, not the sides, so they also sometimes have to be separated throughout the day.and now i'll go do a timeline of my own :-)

okay, i washed every day for the first 2 weeks, but then got worried about mold risk, because they lock up like crazy. so now i also wash twice or 3 times a week.maybe your hair is also thicker on the left side? this is very common. but maybe you're right about which side you sleep on - good luck with that, though, i remember from pregnancies that it's sooo hard NOT to sleep on the side you've always preferred :-)

wow! you look fabulous :-) and your dreads are acting like mine!! i thought for a while i was doing something wrong for them to lock up so fast, but i suppose each head of hair is just different and acts different :-) though i think some of my progress may be due to frequent washing (scalp condition). how often do you wash?

I was asked to post a link to my timeline here, as someone apparently wanted examples of TnR :-) Here it is: http://www.dreadlockssite.com/forum/topics/my-tnr-timeline

Moving up from tams! This is what crochet is REALLY about.

Thank you :-) I will try it out as soon as I have completed my current project (fair isle socks, not mind-numbingly simple, so I'll look forward to relaxing with this ;-).So in the last one, you skipped two sts instead of a 3 st dec?

It could! The pattern is incredibly simple (mind-numbingly so actually!) and I can link the place that I got the pattern for the first two...

really easy once you figure it out! I used to get hung up on the fact that when beginning a new row (rows 2+) you start with 7 dc, then 3dc in next dc, then back to 6dc... you'll understand when looking at the pattern. Before I got the hang of it, it was always lop-sided... like it kept growing too much or something! Now that I've figured it out, I've been rippling like mad!

They're all simply BEAUTIFUL <3 I've never done any ripple crochet but I feel very inspired now :-) Do you think it could also work for small projects, like a headband?I am partial to rainbows, but they're all just fabulous :-)
