braid and neglect?

Dreading Methods

haha welli have that blonde and blue thing working for me. i loved having dreads but theytook forever to lock up last time i had them (this was due to the lack of maintainence, which was brought on by an abundance of drugs and alchohol). i figure as long as i have to wait for my hair to grow out, i can at least start letting it knot up as it goes along.

braid and neglect?

Dreading Methods

jeez. glad you told me that haha.

@SE right now it's about two inches long. i cut my old ones off about a year back and it was a TERRIBLE idea. i was just going to stop brushing my hair as it grows out. average growthis about six inches a year anyways, so it would actually be faster that way.

braid and neglect?

Dreading Methods

i have recently cut my hair and i'm letting it grow back out so i can start my dreads over. unfortunately it's not long enough to go anywhere with neglect yet, but after doing some research i'm thinking that's how i'll do 'em. i was also thinking about (once it grows back out) braiding the hair and then neglecting it from there, maybe rubbing them every now and then. any thoughts?

Tying hair to form dreads? please help!

Introduce Yourself

by the way, the whole walk/drive to the park metaphor is great and it's a shame that by focusing on personal health has effectively tossed the point you were trying to make over the nearest cliff.

Tying hair to form dreads? please help!

Introduce Yourself

kinda got a bit off subject but thanks for the information anyways. i'll have to look into t&r a bit more.and Knottysleeves, i am also of the opinion that backcombing is a totally acceptable method of locking hair, especially considering the time it takes to go natural and the state of the job market. most jobs will allow dreads if they are maintained in a way that looks neat and tidy but do to the in- between time i can't let my hair clump and tangle up before it starts forming dreads. (yes i do realize dreading is a process, but naturally it's a little different)however, a lot of people think they know how to backcomb properly, but are really just winging it. do it properly and it's legit.

Tying hair to form dreads? please help!

Introduce Yourself

so i have been searching the internet trying to find a "better" way to do my dreads again. i stumbled across this video where a girl locks her hair by tying knots in it. at first i was skeptical, but the more i think about it, the more it seems kinda "duh". anyways, i was wondering if anyone had heard of this method and had any stories/cautionary tales/ more proactive methods. just for information's sake, i have straight hair.
