Dread Maintenance

My dreads are a month old and I wear beads. I try to keep in mind that since my dreads are not mature what SE said will happen, so I wear beads between washes. I wash every 3-4 days, so after my hair is fully dry I slip on the beads and there they stay until wash day. I take them out before I wash. I don't wear beads full time and sometimes I go weeks without wearing them. I have noticed some squished parts after removing the beads, but after the wash all is back to normal. They bounce back quite well. Baby dreads are in flux so keeping an eye on the interaction with bead&dread is very important. Sweet! I started 3wks ago with the T&R method. I faced the same options, dread kit or salon. I was planning to visit a salon, but then I happened upon this wonderful site After much reading I decided to T&R, too. It was the best thing I could have ever done for my hair. Happy T&R!

Hello to all,I am SaGem, native Austinite, and starting my locks today. After much reading and learning, I have chosen to go with the T&R method. My hair has a texture of its own. I am of mixed race (Native/African American and Mexican) and well my hair for sure represents my genes I was planning to have my locks done at a salon, but backcombing is the perfered method. As I watched a few videos at YouTube, I knew that method was not for my hair. Twists alone will simply unravel in my hair (even with the help of gel) locking naturally would produce faster results. And I can do T&R myself without the 250+ fee of the salon.Ok my break is over, back to T&R SaGem
