Shampoos and Soaps ~ Maybe get a list started

Dread Maintenance

I am totally feeling the hard water dilemma! It was part of my dread demise. Took them out after four months because I just couldn't find something that cleaned my hair without drying it out so bad it bad it was breaking (I have really, really dry hair) I am getting ready to order this: http://www.dreadlockshampoo.com/page5.html . soaring eagle recommended it...has anyone else tried it? How long does it last? I am trying to decide if I should buy one bar or two. How does the bar thing work?

HELP! Dreads breaking off at the root!!!

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

I took my dreads out. :( They weren't breaking at the root but at the tips and they were really, really dry. I tried using baking soda and Dr. Bronners but suffered from buildup because of hard water so I switched to a purifying shampoo. Was washing about twice a week (sometimes more in the summer because of sweating) and always rinsed with ACV. I didn't use any oils or anything because I was afraid it would cause my dreads to come out. I only had them about four months. I am so sad. I miss my dreads. I want to try again but I need to know how to keep them from getting so dry so that I can keep them. I loved having them...any tips? I am white but suffer from seriously dry hair...like I use black products on my hair a lot because of how dry it is.

Oh, and is it weird that I had more headaches and scalp tenderness with my dreads in? Is there a way to prevent that?

Honey In Month Old Dreads

Dread Maintenance

I use just baking soda to wash. Didn't know that leaving it in for a while helps though. I just use about two tablespoons to a cup of water and kinda squish it through my hair. Don't use anything else on my hair except the occassional aloe vera for frizzies and diluted tea tree oil for scalp. I did use Dr. Bronners before backcombing them...yes, I know, bad bad backcombing but didn't know about natural dreading before I did them.

Seriously, ouch!

General Talk

So are we talking about separating??? I separate mine several times throughout the day. It's my overcompulsive behavior, but apparently it is saving me from tons of pain. My dreads and I just celebrated our one month yesterday and I already have six of what I would call actual dreads and at least three more that are working their way towards that. I am running out of loose hair already. Even at separating several tims a day (okay, more like 2 or 3) I find myself having to actually rip hair sometimes because a section has found its way in there and I don't want it in there...am I totally off of what we are talking about?
