starting dreads advice?

Dreadlock Styles and Dread Styling

Hello lovelies!

so i have finally caved and decided to grow my dreads back in. I havent brushed my hair in about 4 months. i do have a few self given little guys in which (don't hate me) but i crochet a few and twist ripped the other few. the rest of them (notice my gleaming face) are starting all on their own!! what?!?! heck yes im stoked. anyway. i have a few questions. considering the last time i did them i did them...the absolute (in my opinion) no no way..a little bit of wax and a ton of back combing. i HAVE to wash my hair ever day. if i don't..well no..there is no question i have to or i feel gross and it will wight my mind down all day. all i use is dr bronners magic liquid soap.. it is working wonderfully. im just asking anyone who reads this for any extra advice. maybe to quicken the process a little bit or something that i should be doing.

my other question is!!! now id like to dye my hair. ive deicded im not going todye it all just yet but just the front (in which is already blonde) and i would really like to dye the dreads i already have. im pondering if i should really do this or not because im really nervous of it loosening my hair up. yes dye is damaging and considering id have to bleach some parts of my hair beforehand...its going to make it a little gummy feeling. now i am a hair stylist...and do work hand in hand with a salon and i don't trust themm enough to do it..nor do i trust myself. any advice would be very much appreciated. if i have to wait then of course i will wait but.. im in need for a change!!

thank you much!!!

=D

oh no. and i completely understand that as well. i was trying to find out how she did hers and just hope for that subtle look like hers. the ones i had in the past were very thick, i know that i defiantly want them thin this time. Knottysleeves said:
I don't know who Kelly Sharbaugh is (and I'm too lazy to google right now) but just a word of warning: if you try to force your dreads to look exactly like someone else's, you'll probably be disappointed. There's no telling how your hair will dread compared to theirs.

eh i really do not like synthetic hair. i actually have synthetic dread falls from when i was younger and i honestly don't know what i was thinking. i personally don't like how they look. that's my opinion though. thank you =] Knottysleeves said:
Synth dreads might be a good option until your hair grows out? It's not expensive if you do it yourself (or train a friend to install them). It'll give you the thin, smooth look you want but it won't damage your natural hair if you install them properly.

no i understand. i don't want to do it by neglect. because that is (or so ive heard) kinda messy. i need them to be neat. which is why ive decided to do the twist and rip. i understand its not natural, that wasn't how i meant it. i guess i want them more natural looking? the way i would like my hair to be (size of the dreads and more of a subtle look) is Kelly Sharbaugh. i wasn't planning on crocheting all my hair! nooo! lol it was just me asking opinions on the thought of crocheting the extension into the actual dread only because i would only be useing the tip of my hair and the top of the extension. it was only a thought. You said that you wanted to go natural...none of that crap is natural...=/...I'm confused as to what you really want. Lisa speaks the truth by the way.

Introduce Yourself

hello! im new to the website and thought i would introduce myself. my name is Caitlin but since i could remember ive been known and Kittie or Kitten. sometimes Cat. anyway. im 21 years old. i do not yet have dreadlocks but have had them in the past. i used the backcomb/palm roll technique..eh. i want to go a more natural looking way this time..maybe more healthy. so ive chosen the twist and rip technique. i am super excited. i have missed my dreads sooo much. im also going thin this time.so here is my question!! my hair length is medium. so i would like to add dread extensions to it until my natural hair gets to a good length. i know how to dread extensions into natural hair useing the crochet technique but not quite sure on how to useing the twist and rip. if anyone has any tips or anything at all i would greatly greatly appreciate it =]im thinking mayyyybe i could just crochet the dread extension in because of it being just the bottom of my hair and top of the extension but thinking that that part will be thicker then the rest of my hair, and wont blend in very nice.thank you!!! =D
