Dreading daughter's hair, is it fair?

General Talk

Kids hate the brush at that age...i guess it's ok, sure she'll get tired of them as she grows, that's how kids are. My daughter is the same, she's 8 and she has 3 dreads now....peace&love_zen

well hey...i'm sampling t&r right now and there might be something to it,seems nice... soaringeagle said:

crocheting is out for me...i'll do a combination of BC,T&R, and some PATIENCE and hope for the best and it might be interesting.lol...

soaringeagle said:
but...if u do decide to crochet remember its gonna be a commitment and a chore
all the damage u do will need constant repair and you could be crocheting many hours a week for life

lol, as someone who backcombed, an then later T&R some of my friends hair, I admit T&R has a greater potential to look like real locks right away, if not arguably better over-all (tho this to is affected by who is more familiar with w/e method)

crocheting, starting your locks like that would really mess up your hair, (think it'd be almost guarantee that if you ever didn't want them you'd have to shave from all the mangling caused by starting like this)

you could also choose start with ANY method and still crochet if you feel you want to.

hahaha about the locksmith gag...but yes you have a point there...thanks CBD Makarov said:
Suggestion-Natural method.
Another suggestion-Do more research on dreadlocks.

Locksmith is a guy who makes keys, locks and knows the inner workings of a lock.
A locktican is what you're talking about and they don't know crap about natural dreadlocks.

Just grow natural dreadlocks. You're wasting your money by going to a locktican.
You're not going to have dreadlocks for the next 8 months.
You would be wise to accept that.

Dreading Methods

hello all
today might be the day for the first leg of my journey...i'll be going to the "lock-smith" later to discuss which method to use..,i'm inclined toward backcombing as they have a more natural appearance than the crochet method(but i like the neatness of them).ANY SUGGESTIONS?

Seems as if you did it right. Mine were similar to that after I was finished.

i've done a couple of t&r, it's easier, but i don't know if i did them right...are they supposed to be lumpy and uneven, also they are fuzzy.

Welcome!

Back combing is so disappointing, because the dreads you make won't stay. One exception I've found - on a particularly dread-resistant strand I've very lightly "back combed" using my fingers, then put a bead on, just to encourage knotting.

thanks for the input...i'll be staying away from the crochet method.although i like the "neatness" of crocheted dreads i don't like the unnaturalness and too structured look of them.the only problem i have with the patience method is not the method itself but the heat, it's unbearable(if you've ever been to here you'll know what i mean), it could drive you mad hahaha.i tried backcombing and gave up after making 3 due to numb arms and fingers. they turned out ok...i think.anyway, i'll just update...peace
