Rinsing everyday

Dread Maintenance

It's been almost 3 months that i started dreading, i wash my hair every week or sometimes 2 twice a week. i T&R'd themMy question is, can i get my hair wet everyday without it harming my baby dreads? I hate wearing a shower cap and i would rather rinse them to get any debris out of my hair.

Just looking for some reassurance

Introduce Yourself

Hello all! I've been following this site for about 5 months, but until now i've been too lazy to sign up.

My father started my dreads by the twist and rip method on Feb. 6th of this year. I have supportive parents that actually spent some time searching youtube on videos of how to twist and rip, so i guess i'm pretty lucky :) Anyway, I have never used wax or anything, i've just washed my hair with dr. bronners bar soap every week, and sometimes twice a week since i do go to the gym and get all sweaty. After every shower i would see my dreads loosen up and i would retwist them which got pretty annoying so i just let them be after 2 weeks.

Okay so the thing is, i just want reassurance that they will tighten up because my dreads tend to get curly and stuff, they are not looking straight, it looks like i have curly hair with thick curls :s. Also my father didn't really section my hair, he just kinda went for it, so my roots are not in squares, rather in like rectangles..ish. OH! and also i have like dandruff flakes in my hair..how can i get rid of them?

So basically, 1. Will my hair tighten up? 2. How can i get rid of flakes? 3. Why is Johnny Clean such a douche?!

My profile pic is how my hair used to be

the price of well maintained salon dreads

Dread Maintenance

I tried this jamaican women last year. When i first called she said she would charge $80, but when i got there and told her i wanted thin dreads, like pinky width, she said it would take longer and bumped up the price to $200. I was excited to start so i agreed to pay. As she started, she pulled out synthetic hair and started my "permanent" dreads by glueing the fake hair to mine and twisting it to what looked like dread. I was concerned so i asked why she was using synthetic hair, her response "this is how everyone does it, even blacks". I thought she knew what was up since she was jamaican, but i was totally wrong. After 7 hours and her bumping up the price another $50, i went home and started looking up info on temporary dreads. Turns out her "permanent" dreads were temporary, but she made them permanent by using glue. Anyway it took my about a month to find the time to comb it out (with school and all), fortunately i got it all out! and i have started a new set. What was ridiculous is that she said i would have to go back to her every month for an $80 maintenance. First time i had ever been scammed.
