What would happen if I combed my hair?

Dread Maintenance

@aquaguy Not sure how far along you are/were as you were using a residual shampoo, but there could be a build-up inside your dreads from it. As for combing your hair, I can't say what to do. I would try combing it out before cutting it off though.

Loose hair and flat roots

Dread Maintenance

...so I'm hoping that in time the flat matted hair will compress..

My first dread started out flat, but eventually folded into itself. Kind of like rolling a piece of paper. It's growing in flat again though. I LOVE IT! Mine are Freeform, so have zero expectations as to how they should turn out. That's the thing with dreadlocks, if you've got expectations, you'll be disappointed. Just go with the flow. ;)

good

hey is anyone not getting some email notices from the site/?

@soaring-eagle I got my last email notice from the site on Dec 18th 2018 :(

@daniel2 I felt your pain cutting off that dread! I did notice that it looked like there was a lot of gunk in it though, and you'll be better off without it. I have a friend that went the crochet route(I know You FREEFORM) but he just uses whatever shampoo available in stores here, and does baking soda/acv. He's had a few break off, and they looked Exactly like yours seemed to look on the inside. The residues left behind by regular shampoos are ridiculous, and I have a feeling they eat the hair over time(can't say for sure, but...). I have a good feeling that your future locks will live a long healthy life as long as you don't go back to regular shampoo. Good luck on your journey!!!

Natural dreadlocks, from day 0

TashTash: ...I think my hair is influencing my life a little more, I’ve been focusing on my spirituality and life in general. I’ve always had a problem with beginning things because I always had this fear of not doing it perfectly, but I feel like my hair has helped me let go of that fear. I’ve been able to take the first steps on my chosen path without feeling too paralysed to start, and I owe it to this journey that I began because of this site. Anyone else had a change of perspective like this? Hope you’re all having a great day 😘

I have found my hair weeds out the people I want nothing to do with anyway, and has brought people into my life that accept me for exactly who I am. It has been very profound for me. I hope it brings you the same. The hardest part is just letting go.

@daniel2 Sorry to hear you're having such breakage issues. Your hair still looks awesome though! Does your hair feel any different from your head to breaking point/breaking point to tip? I personally think may be damage caused by the shampoo you used first & the baking soda/acv, and I have a feeling it won't happen to it now that you're using good shampoo! Tying them up the way you say you do shouldn't do that. Not without an underlying cause.  Healthy dreads are strong.

To comb or not to comb...

General Questions

AquaGuy:

...I thought my hair would knot up a lot quicker than it did because it’s naturally curly and very thick actually, turns out it prefers to mat rather than to dread LOL.

Mat Rather than Dread? MATTING IS DREADING!!! Your hair is still really short too, so the fact you're getting matts at all is pretty lucky imo. Took almost 4 years growth(from bald) for me to get my first knot :(
