I need some advice

General Questions

Well, it has been about 4 and a half months since I started my dreads. I backcombed at first but I let it natural afterwards and most of the hair became undone within the first month. But I've patiently allowed my hair to form the natural way, however I have seen NO progress whatsoever with my loose hair. The hair that remained dreaded after backcombing has been looping but the hair that came loose and I wanted to dread naturally has not shown any progress at all, it just stays the same as my natural hair; it's as if I had never started the dreading process.I wash once or twice a week with Bronners tea tree oil liquid soap, I use a wool tam almost every night and sometimes in the evenings when I stay home, and that's it; I don't comb, crotchet, wax or nothing. My natural hair is very straight and long, and the only thing that seems to be the cause of this problem might be that it's also very greasy. Please give me some advice on what to do, is my problem all because my hair is greasy? what else could it be?I have some ACV at home, can it help with the greasy hair, or is it for something else? Please any advice is fully appreciated.

Washing dreads

General Questions

Hey everybody tomorrow I will be doing my first wash after a whole week since I sectioned my hair and did some backcombing. I will be using Dr. Bronner's liquid soap and I'm just wondering if there is a particular/different way to wash your hair I mean, do I just grab each (soon-to-be)dread and one-by-one apply the soap? or do I just wash like having regular hair? should I be more gentle when lathering? Also, I'm going to try using aloe vera on my hair to see how it turns out for me, but should I put it on before or after washing my hair?Any help is appreciated, and if you have any tips about washing dreads please feel free to add your thoughts. Thanks!

Hey everybody!

Introduce Yourself

Hello there, I'm Rodrigo and I'm new to this whole dreading process as I just started yesterday. First of all, let me just say I'm glad I found this site because otherwise I would have been another victim of those sites that promote the wrong ideas about dreads and try to make a buck selling a bunch of useless and often damaging products in the process. Now, the way I started is a sort of combination of different methods all used sparingly and only when I saw it was necessary. I used backcombing with a little bit of twist & rip and some palm rolling just to get them started, and from now on is all gonna be natural; no wax, palm rolling (maybe some for the first week), etc. I will be using Dr. Bronner's liquid soap for a while, and then I'll start using the mixture of backing soda recommended by none-other-than soaringeagle. But I do have a question: my natural hair is very straight and fine, and when I finished backcombing, the ends of my soon-to-be dreads are very thin and I cant backcomb them anymore.I have attached some pictures to show how they look (the first and second pics). So I'm wondering if there is something I can do about them OR just leave them alone. I'm not sure if the pictures show well enough but they are long and thin ends. Also the top of my head has some fuzziness and lots of loose hairs (see last picture), can I do something to make it look a bit more presentable (no wax of course), or again just leave them be.Any other advice I would really appreciate. Check some of my other pictures in my profile to see how it looks and tell me how is going. Thanks!
