Substance abuse: Medicinal vs. Recreational
General Talk
So i don't know if anybody on here will have heard about this, most of you being American, but you may be interested, as i expect a few people here smoke cannabis.Recently the Chairman of the 'Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs' (basically a bunch of scientists that research drugs and advise the UK government) Professor Nutt was sacked for making some controversial remarks about cannabis, ecstasy and LSD.His findings state that alcohol and cigarettes are more of a danger to health than cannabis, and
cannabis does cause very little psychological harm to the majority of peoples health. The UK government is now facing the remaining 28 top scientists in the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs all quitting next week.John Beddington, the UK's chief scientific advisor has backed the research and says the evidence that cannabis is less dangerous than alcohol and cigarettes is
'absolutely clear cut'.The home secretarys decision to sack Proffessor Nutt has the scientific community up in arms, and everyones in a bit of a kerfuffle.i think this is fantastic news! any other thoughts?
